Apparently Australians have been known to put fried egg and pineapple on hamburgers. (I don't know whether or not these go together or separately, but still, very very weird.)

I can see a fried egg on it. Kind of like an Egg McMuffin. I would never have thought of it, and wouldn't eat it, but it seems to go. But pineapple is something else entirely.

I might think differently if I actually ate fried eggs or pineapple at all.

But... Egg McMuffins have english muffins and ham, not sesame seed rolls and beef!! ;)

Although, this gives me ideas about having a fried-egg hamburger for breakfast someday.

Together. I saw a foodtv show on that once upon a time. Freaky, if you ask me. I guess I could deal with the egg (over medium), but the pineapple... Just not my thing. Pineapple shrimp is good. Ooo! Ooo! Pineapple as part of a Hawaiian Chicken thing is good. Reminds me of this hawaiian pineapple chicken dish I had as a kid at my bar mitzvah. It's amazing what you remember. Laf. It was very good. Man. I haven't thought about that in years. MmmmMMMmmmmmm.

Heh, I've never really been a fan of pineapple. Maybe I was when I was little and living in Hawaii... maybe I burned out on it!

I've seen the pineapple and burger thing before at a restarant in Edmond. I just forget the name. It's basically a grilled pineapple on a burger and it's there to lend sweetness to the food. I've had it. It's alright. Not something I'd go looking for though.

I don't know...the more I think about it the better it sounds. Maybe I should go home and try making one myself. All I need to do is pick up some pineapple.

Fatburger (http://www.fatburger.com/menu.html) which has been around since 1952 has always had the option of adding a fried egg to their burgers.

Islands Restaurant (http://www.islandsrestaurants.com/menu.htm) has their Hawaiian burger which is a teriyaki burger with a slice of pineapple on top.

So I don't think it's necessarily an Aussie thing unless they put both on at the same time.

According to other comments, they do go together!

And New Zealanders commonly put fried egg and a slice of beet on their hamburgers. In the McDonald's in New Zealand, they even sell "Kiwi Burgers" which are Quarter-Pounders with the above additions.

Yeah, in the original post the beet was mentioned, and while that's strange I don't think it's quite as gross as the egg and pineapple combination...!

let me see...

bun bottom (lightly toasted, bbq/tomato (ketchup to you heathens) sauce, maybe mayonnaise (tiny bit)..big beef patty (that has onion and garlic and herbs mixed in) fried, then tomato, beetroot, onions, cheese, lettuce, top bun....

for 'the lot', add an egg after the patty, pineapple after the tomato or beetroot and bacon in with the egg and patty...

most people do NOT have chips (or fries to you heathens) with this ;) there's almost no way to fit it in...and it is GOOD. anything less is not a hamburger.

(oh, like NZ, we have the Aussie burger that has egg and bacon on it)....

Tomato sauce is the red sauce you put on spaghetti.

I might be willing to try one of these someday, made by a competent Aussie - but I don't trust myself to make a good one by comparison.

I will attest to the goodness of this. Having recently done the road trip thing, I have partaken in 2 greasy takeaway hamburgers in the last week and they are GOOD. The trick is to put the pineapple on top then the bacon then the egg.
