If work has blocked a website from viewing, would it still be ping-able from the work computers?

I can't connect to AIM through any AIM program I've tried... but the server that Trillian says it can't reach, login.oscar.aol.com, I can ping and traceroute to fine. Hrm. I'm wondering if work has blocked something so AIM can't be used from the computers here...

So, after getting caught in the rain last night after work and being generally grumpy, I decided to avoid the rain in Central Square by going into Goodwill. I scored. $5 for a very nice pair of chocolate-brown pinstriped pants for work. They FIT, which is amazing. Not too snug, not too baggy, the inseam isn't 6" below my crotch, the pinstripes actually are fairly straight lines (other females with curvy lower bodies should appreciate that), and while I thought they were slightly long when I was trying them on, I was barefoot then and now in shoes they're fine. I'm so pleased.

I'm of course wearing them today. I showed them to [livejournal.com profile] londo, hoping to get agreement that they were good pants, and he simply said, "They look just like all your other pants." Pfft, boys. *roll eyes* These are BROWN! The only other pair of pinstriped side-zip pants I have are navy blue. *nods* And then there's my pinstriped black pants, but they have a jeans-like button+zipper in the front. So there's no way these look like any other pants I have. ;)

After that I headed over to [livejournal.com profile] sandrylene's house to socialize for a bit before going to dance practice, but soon afterwards multitudes (or 3) of the Boston-area KoLers descended (including the lovely [livejournal.com profile] cthules), making a total of seven of us talking about stuff, and Sandrylene and KS were making such yummy mexican food, and the next thing I knew it was 9pm and my stomach was stuffed with enchiladas and tacos and I just couldn't move... (until a walk to Tosci's was suggested, at least. I recommend their (new?) Reese's Monkey.)

Very weird story about my memory:

Every now and then, I remember a song I know I heard during high school on the Dr. Demento Show, which I listened to religiously: "If I Can't Go To Manhattan, Bring a Manhattan To Me." I can sing the chorus word- and pitch-perfect, at least in relation to my memory, and the memory is STRONG. I've looked for the song on file sharing services and had no luck, although googling finds me the name of the artist easily - Mr Elk and Mr Seal, they're called. It never grabbed me to look beyond that...

But I was talking to someone online recently who apparently loves challenges like hard songs to find, so I gave him that one. Now, a day later, he is sharing what he has found: that song has apparently only ever been played on the Dr. Demento show once. EVER. (The Dr. D official site points to the unofficial rec.arts.dementia site with a playlist search.) It was on the show played on January 17, 1993.

I am confused. I am not certain that I listened to Dr. D in 7th grade. Let's see... I lived in Louisiana... went to Cope Middle School... It's feasible, but I really remember listening to Dr. D the most in California, during the 8th or 9th grade. Perhaps it was a rerun of that particular show? Either way, it's not likely that I heard the song more than once, which makes it REALLY interesting that my memory of it is so strong.

I have a line on downloading it now, on a site (http://www.TheMadMusicArchive.com/) that hosts rotating segments of Dr. Demento shows for download. By permission, too! The segment of that show containing my song should be available on the 1st of the month when the segments rotate. *crosses fingers*

I need to re-dye my skirt black and put a ribbon into the top of my chemise, so I can wear them to the Palio. Those, made from cotton, with a bodice seem (correct me if I'm wrong) better for hot weather wear than thick long-sleeved dresses.

I am, lately. Short fuse. I assume it's a combination of PMS, moving stress, and lack of sleep. There's nothing I can do about the first, and currently I could do something about either of the last two but not both. I think I'm going to go for the third, there. See you in the morning.
