Perhaps the reason I'm so enraged about the below is that I finished V for Vendetta last night. Fucking fabulous. Amazing. I'll be reading it over again and again before [livejournal.com profile] tpau wrenches it from my hands... okay, maybe not quite that much, but certainly once more through.

Now that I've read it, I watched the trailer... Natalie Portman, I think, will probably end up being a good choice. Certain bits of it are certainly making me grin when thinking of her involved. The rest... I just really hope they do a good job of it. From what I've seen, though, the movie isn't displaying the politicians and policemen as "real people" as well as the book did. Too many uniforms.

Anyway. Great novel. Has totally spurred my anarchist side into action. (Remember, folks, anarchy != chaos.)

V is some of my favorite artwork and writign ever set down paper. I'm petrified as to what the movie industry will do to it, I really am. I read one rumor somewhere that the movie will actually show V's face, which I think will just destroy a mojor portion of the whole point of it... I don't know, I want it to be wonderful, but I can't imagien it will do anythign beyond pervert the whole thing.

How does hios quote go? Something like "Anarhy doesn't mean 'without organization,' that's just chaos. It means without leaders." I've always been in favor...

"By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe."

Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici.

Unf. The sheer ... I don't even konw the word, but having that quote, which starts with ALL Vs - be used by V... That just makes me want to go have Alan Moore's babies.

Showing V's face would be Bad. Having just finished my first run of it, I am of course wondering if his identity IS one that is detectable, someone casually mentioned somewhere in the storyline... But I am very glad that in the book, the mystery of all of that was kept.

The idea of Portman doing her final scene (don't worry, folks! no spoilers here! all I will say is "final scene!") makes me squeal with girlish delight.

It's my favorite of Moore's long works. I hope the movie won't suck, though I have my doubts. I heard that it's been pushed back to March release (instead of the ultra-appropriate Fifth of November); allegedly because of post-production, though political climate seems a much more likely cause. A story where the protagonist is a terrorist associated with the London Underground seems like a hard sell, just at the moment.

Here's a review of a draft of the movie script, if you're interested.

I do think that Portman is a good enough actress to pull off her role, if she tries (though her perfomances in thr SW movies were bad enough to give me pause here).

To be honest, I never really wodnered abotu V's identity. I always assuemd he was pretty much nobody, just a random person caught up in something and transformed by his circumstances into a force of nature, so to speak. That always struck me as more in keeping with Moore's point then anything else, but I dunno.

I fear.

(and yes, that quote gave me shivers when I first read it)

Hmmm. Want to wait to swap books once you've read V?

Alternatively, getting together some evening?

Probably true. It's more powerful if he's not SOMEBODY.

Okay, that does damper my enthusiasm. Hmm. I'm still interested in seeing it, though. Movie party? :)

And happily, londo liked it too. :)

I might want to see this in the theaters, if only to take part in the inevitable flaming. But if I don't get around to that, I'd be happy to host a showing at Melville Keep at some point.
