We have a positive ID on the dry socket. Lower left (from my orientation) extraction site.

My dry socket has been named Jimmy.

I went to the dentist this morning and got seen in about 10 minutes! The dentist poked around and found Jimmy. She took out the nearby stitches and sprayed Jimmy all around with FUCKING COLD saline solution to clean him, and then stuffed him full of this nice clove-tasting and smelling solution. It hurt like a bitch for about 20 minutes, and then... ah bliss! It began to taper off. Plus, I got more percocet!

Which probably explains why I have, y'know, a name for my wound.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] sleek... you're right about the cloves! I have never smoked a clove cigarette, but I have dim memories of being around other people who were, and this does remind me of that. It's kinda nice, though. I feel like I'm going to have nice clovey breath for a while. Which is good because Jimmy was starting to SMELL. He certainly tasted bad.

The medicine stuffing (and percocet) should keep me pretty pain-free for the weekend, and I have an appointment Monday morning to get it changed.

Thanks to those who informed me that what I was experiencing wasn't normal. I thought I was just being a wuss...

::reads infomration:: "Chew on the other side of mouth"? When I had my teeth out, I didn't *have* an other side of mouth. I had lots of soup.

No, dear, you weren't being a wuss. I did have a friend who got dry socket, but didn't notice, because she was so small that the narcotics worked especially well for her, so she literally didn't feel a thing until they were doing a follow up and went "huh. Didn't you feel the pain?" and she said, "Hm? No. I have drugs."

The other side of my mouth is working fine for chewing, luckily. I have to be careful, but that's fine. I'm still defaulting to soup a lot too, though.
