We have a positive ID on the dry socket. Lower left (from my orientation) extraction site.

My dry socket has been named Jimmy.

I went to the dentist this morning and got seen in about 10 minutes! The dentist poked around and found Jimmy. She took out the nearby stitches and sprayed Jimmy all around with FUCKING COLD saline solution to clean him, and then stuffed him full of this nice clove-tasting and smelling solution. It hurt like a bitch for about 20 minutes, and then... ah bliss! It began to taper off. Plus, I got more percocet!

Which probably explains why I have, y'know, a name for my wound.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] sleek... you're right about the cloves! I have never smoked a clove cigarette, but I have dim memories of being around other people who were, and this does remind me of that. It's kinda nice, though. I feel like I'm going to have nice clovey breath for a while. Which is good because Jimmy was starting to SMELL. He certainly tasted bad.

The medicine stuffing (and percocet) should keep me pretty pain-free for the weekend, and I have an appointment Monday morning to get it changed.

Thanks to those who informed me that what I was experiencing wasn't normal. I thought I was just being a wuss...

::reads infomration:: "Chew on the other side of mouth"? When I had my teeth out, I didn't *have* an other side of mouth. I had lots of soup.

No, dear, you weren't being a wuss. I did have a friend who got dry socket, but didn't notice, because she was so small that the narcotics worked especially well for her, so she literally didn't feel a thing until they were doing a follow up and went "huh. Didn't you feel the pain?" and she said, "Hm? No. I have drugs."

Dentists have been using clove oil for decades, probably a lot longer, as a local anesthetic. I definitely prefer it to some of the more modern ones. Good luck getting rid of Jimmy! ;-)

It's good to hear they got it taken care of. I told MB last night that you thought it was a dry socket and she started shuddering.

The other side of my mouth is working fine for chewing, luckily. I have to be careful, but that's fine. I'm still defaulting to soup a lot too, though.

It works well enough for me! Thanks for the well-wishes.

Yeah, I'll definitely be warning people about this from now on if they're going to get a tooth extracted!

The smell of cloves reminds you of cigarettes, not lemons? Ah, how the traditionsof Carolingia have fallen away in recent times :-(

I've never heard of cloves and lemons together...

...and I've not been a part of Carolingia for THAT long!

After they take the clove paper out and you graduate to non clove taste in your mouth, you get this handy syringe that looks like some kind of torture device to suck your brains out. Anyways, use lukewarm water!!!!! Trust me. I'm still squirting food out of my sockets and it's been hmm a couple months since my wisdom came out.

Oh god, I know, see above where I talked about how freaking cold that water was? UGH!

I know you haven't been in Carolingia THAT long. But, back in the day, someone as pretty as you would have been introduced to the concept *long* since...

I'm glad you got this checked out. I hope the treatment works for you and Jimmy goes away.

OK, I'm shuddering at your pain, but I'm laughing my fool ass off at naming the dry socket. Sometimes you very much remind me of me, J. You may be complemented or use that as a cautionary statement - your call. I am glad you're taking care of yourself, and back on the drugs. :)

On a different note, are you still looking at/bidding on DCI tix? The guy we bought ours from - it's a damned small world! - actually lived ON OUR FREAKING STREET. Too weird. Anywho, he has a pair of tix to the Finals on Saturday that are in the 300's, and he's selling them for $25, if you're interested.

Drew had all four of his wisdom teeth go dry-sockety. Then they gave him some antibiotics, which he was allergic to, and so he developed a mouth-based yeast infection ('thrush').

So, y'know, it could be worse. They didn't even drug him up.

Fuck.

I bow to the superior pain and discomfort presented before me.

(Yeah, but what's new, really?)
