Wow, that seemed to go a lot faster than the scarf. But isn't it harder to make a hat? (Since it's not just a big rectangle?)

Hmm, I had to copy/paste because your tag is messed up, but I see. That's very interesting!

Nope... you get these neat things called circular needles (picture (http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall03/images/circ_untwist.jpg)) that let you knit around and around in a spiral forever. So I did that for about 6-7 inches, then started decreasing by 6 stitches every 'time around (the original circle was 72 stitches around) so that the top eventually gathered together. It went VERY quickly. I did it in, like, two days.

Also, I am more familiar with knitting now, so things went faster.

Okay, how do you:

1) decide how many stitches comprise your starting circumference?

2) connect the spiral to itself?

Sorry, the second one is probably a weird question, but if you can figure out what I'm asking, I'm interested.

1) I took the yarn I had and made a 20 stitch by 6 row rectangle, measured it, measured around my head, and then did some math. :)

2) You just knit the last loop onto the first loop... link where the picture came from (http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall03/FEATtheresa.html)

Thanks!

So (prepare for another dumb question) do you just use one circular needle, or two? Or one and one straight?

It's one circular needle - which is created by taking two straight needles and joining their back ends with a flexible plastic cord. :)

uh.. it's in my head!
I'm sure it'd be online somewhere as just a slipper pattern. It's just plain and pearl.. kind of hard to describe in words. I'll try to find it.

nod, knit/perl is easy, but where's the decreases/increases and stuff? :)
