I had my very first "authentic Jewish food" on Sunday at Joan and Ed's Deli in Natick. Had a meat knish, a latke, and kishka - VERY GOOD. I ate it all up with yum. There was also a piece of peanut butter chocolate cheesecake that made me moan. I recommend the place and hope to go back!

Saw Sky Captain again, this time with [livejournal.com profile] londo. Still good. For those of you who have seen it and enjoyed the last line of the film, I found it interesting that it was actually a lie. That, or an editing slip-up. Was Joe just being a bastard? Make your predictions...

Crossroads = fun, although I didn't get the most important thing I wanted to get done. Bleh. That's why it sucks to have your plot depend on others. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] londo met me at work during my lunch hour. Sometimes it's amazing how well we get along. I mean, seriously - there's no end in sight. :)

I signed up for Zipcar since through work I get all of the signup fees/annual fees/etc waived except for $25/year. I'm not sure how much I'll use it, since the cars start at $8.50/hr and therefore they won't really be useful for driving to bellydance, etc, but it's cheap enough to be worth the signup for a possible emergency (or shopping trip for heavy things).

I'm currently reading for the first time The Mists of Avalon, which was recommended to me wayyyyy back when in high school. By Amanda Suenram, for those who know her. The book fits her pretty well - all goddess earth-mother-y. I'm not impressed but it's good for passing the time. Hopefully the next time I get to the library, Prince Caspian will be in and I can continue the Narnia series.

Enough blathering. I should sleep.

Mists took me four tries to get through, over the course of about three years. I would always get bored at some point, put it down for several months, pick it up, go from the beginning, make it further, get bored...

I reallyt think it starts out stronger than it ends, and I prefer _The Firebrand_ (MZB takes on The Illiad!) but it's essentially the Same Damn Story... Goddess worship going away, and it's bad, and men are subjugating women, and it's bad bad bad.

What do you have against Ralph Nader?

...because Nader left her for another man.

I blame him.

Narnia series = good.

Zipcar - I've heard of it before, it sounds pretty neat.

Man, I wish I could take public transportation to work... But the only way I can do it is to take the train all the way in to Boston (South Station, I believe) and back out to Maynard... turning a 40-minute drive into 2+ hours of train. Blech.

same way in the philadelphia suburbs. drive to work? 30 minutes. public transportation to work? 2 hours. it's fecking ridiculous.

And of course, if you work in the suburbs, you probably don't make enough money to afford to LIVE in the city and take public transport.

It's expensive enough living in an apartment in Worcester, the *ahem* not-so-desirable city that is nearest to Boston (it's in central Massachusetts). My fiancé and I are looking into moving east, towards where we both work, but it's probably going to be too expensive to be worth it. Forget living in Boston - we'd be paying twice as much as we are now, and have only a closet-sized space to show for it.

amen! i wish i could afford to live *in* philly where all the interesting things are going on, but since i work in the burbs, the commute would kill me. so i tell myself, i'll find a job in philly and move to the city.. but it's just so expensive.. so i keep a car, drive to work in the burbs, live in the burbs, and hit the city on weekends when i can. change is so hard huh? sigh.

Yeah, your apartment is dirt cheap. *is jealous*

Yeah, but I live in a slummy-student area. And the apartment is falling apart. It's large, it's convenient to WPI and a few (ok, a lot) of our friends... but not convenient to work, or church, or really anything we do.

Unfortunately, housing/apartment prices rise sharply once you get east of Worcester. With massive student loans to pay off, [livejournal.com profile] nightskyre and I can't really afford to be somewhere that's much over $1000/month... which is about the equivalent of both our rents right now. But we're not even going to be able to find a nice one-bedroom place for that price.

I think that WPI was worth the price for both of us... but we're going to be paying it off for a long time.

My place is only $900/mo, but it's a fairly crappy 2-bedroom. It's true that you won't find a "nice" place for under $1000, but you probably can find one that's not too bad..

Where is church/work/the best location?

on 5 Oct 2004 16:14 (UTC)

The best location would be somewhere right along 495. I work in Maynard, he works in Westboro, and we go to church in West Boylston.

*looks at map*

Nod, hrm. That close to 495 probably will be more expensive, being that it's a major commuter area. :P

I'm reading the original order, starting with Lion (which I had read before). :)
