My take: if these medical professionals are refusing to prescribe pills because they have the possibility of harming a fertilized egg that they believe to be alive, do they also refuse to prescribe any medication that has the possibility of harming an embryo, fetus, child, or adult? Because, uh, that leaves them with very little to stand on.

I feel the need to state for the record that I am fully in favor of these people making these refusals, because they are adhering to a principle they hold, however much I disagree with it.

I also feel the need to state for the record that I do not object to said people being fired when their principles do not allow them to carry out basic job functions.

Totally agreed, on both counts. It's all great if you believe in this that strongly, but perhaps medicine/pharmacy isn't the best career option for you in that case.

And, yes, what about people who are on birth controll (any birth control) for other reasons? The main reason I'm on depo is for endometriosis... the contraceptive part is (as far as I'm concerned) a happy side-effect, not the primary reason.

I was happy when I found out that my new insurance covered birthcontrol pills. My previous insurance discouraged use by requiring the doctor to submit extra forms and whatnot so that the perscription would be covered. Thank goodness for these progressive Danes.

Right. So now no one with STD's gets treated, no one gets birth control, no one gets the antidpressents they need 'cause they used to use drugs.

My doctor's *always* gave me a test to make sure I wasn't pregnant first before prescribing bcp to me. Heck they're always prescribing medicine that can harm you.

The Pill doesn't just cause early termination if you're pregnant when you start taking it -- it prevents a fertilized egg from implanting itself in the uterine lining. The people who are morally opposed believe that every fertilized egg ought to have its fair chance.

Ok,I'm extremely sickened and angered by this shit.
What fucking right does some random schmuk think they have to tell you what medicine you can or can't have based on their personal beliefs!?!
That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard!
And they may be fired for it??These people should be arrested!
Some young girl could be in agony because she couldn't get her pills that she takes for cramps...there are so many reasons people need the pill.

Could help spread the word,and maybe something could one day be done to stop this bullshit.
