To summarize the last post:
  • Spend 73 days at a hospital in a private suite with no contact with the outside world (no time cues). No windows, watches, clocks, live TV, radio, phone calls, or visitors. Allowed are: books, art supplies, musical instruments, possibly VCR/DVD (they said no LIVE TV...).

  • Various tests during that time, including at-the-computer tests (for reaction time, memory, mood, etc) as well as physical tests such as EEG, temperature, blood, saliva, and urine tests.

  • Final payment: At least $10,000 for the entire study. !!!!!!!

  • Pros:
  • Lots of money. I could get completely out of debt.

  • Spare time to think, practice musical instruments, and read the long list of books I want to read. And think.

  • Cons:
  • 73 days away from my life, my cats, and all of you.

  • No exercise other than light stretching (for reasons of messing up body temperature readings). This is con for a couple of different reasons.

  • I might not be accepted for reasons of mental health. If nothing else, I am dysthymic.

  • While in, I would have no clue how long I'd been there, and how long until getting out. I can see getting really freaky about that. "I've been in here for six months, I swear it! LET ME OUT!!!"

  • I'm sure this list will grow...

I finally read through the whole document. Rectal thermometer, IV catheter, frequent urine samples, and food prepared by their dietician.

Still, if I wasn't working, I'd be seriously, seriously tempted... the opportunity to reflect on yourself for 73 days seems like it could be an interesting spiritual kind of experience.

I'm all okay with the medical parts, perhaps not enthusiastic but not seriously put off. And asking about the food is on my list of things to do before applying ;)

Yep. I hope for much reflection.
