Another point for using the client to update instead of the web page:
When you're at the end of a long post, but you're looking in another window for a link to something to put at the end of your long post, and when you click on the link it redirects your FIRST window to the link, therefore losing your long post.
It was just a long, long rant about Buffy. I think I'll just go to bed. BUT - if anyone wants to rant about Buffy with me sometime, I need to rant. Heh.

Re:
on 26 Apr 2003 02:03 (UTC)I guess I want to rant the most about the episode from this season where Anya goes all vengeance-y and then takes it back... the whole episode was just beautifully written. There are so many little references to previous episodes. Like when Buffy is talking about how she had to kill Angel because Xander told her that Willow said "kick his ass", when really that was a lie on Xander's part (because Willow was working on the spell..!) And there are a TON of little references in the singing scene - which is just a beautiful scene in and of itself, I have had that song stuck in my head for days now (I just watched all of this season's episodes so far in one big chunk about 3 days ago, heh). The song itself references Anya and Xander's duet in the musical episode, "I'll Never Tell", and when Anya opens the door and hears the neighbors singing they're talking about the man getting a mustard stain on his shirt, and in the musical episode there's a cut where there's a guy singing about how the dry cleaners' got a mustard stain out..! And even more, oh... Plus there's the flashback-to-880 scenes with Olaf and Anya (Aud?) that are just hilariously great. The only thing I'd want more would be an explanation of exactly why Anya went from loving bunnies to being deathly afraid of them. ;)
Ho boy. And that's just a rant on ONE EPISODE!
For some reason I find myself constantly going back to watch the last 5 minutes of last season's ep "Wrecked", where Spike and Buffy have sex. Watching them go from kicking each other's ass to passionately kissing to Spike hefting Buffy's legs around his waist to her reaching between them and the zipper noise and her body thrusts forward and the look on both their faces... just ROWR. Amazing.
I was trying to explain to someone today why it was such a good show, and when I said it had "believable characters" they laughed out loud at me. But I stand by that statement. The situations aren't believable, but the characters are. The way they react to things is realistic and you (or at least I) can completely empathize with them. Man.
That enough ranting? :)
Re: YAY!! Buffy!
on 26 Apr 2003 13:39 (UTC)But anyway, what I really liked about the Selfless episode was that Anya finally acknowledged that she'd spent all of her 2000+ years defining herself through the men in her life. Her solo that had gotten cut from OMWF was placed better here than it would have been last season.
I really hate that whole Buffy/Spike things, although prolly quite a bit less than i did last year. I had to watch most of Something Blue with my eyes closed, i thought the buffy/spike make-out scenes were GROSS!! I think i had my eyes closed through that scene in Wrecked too. I do like what Spike's feelings for Buffy have done for the character. He's all with the depth and inner personality now. it's cute. :)
Ya know, these situations are totally realistic. They just kinda blown up out-of-proportion like the feel IRL, if not like they actually are. That's what helps to identify with them, they speak to our psyche and not just to our mind.
hmm, i hope i was allowed to rant back.
:)
Re: YAY!! Buffy!
on 30 Apr 2003 02:28 (UTC)Heh I watched all of this season for the first time in the span of the last week, so of course they will seem much "longer ago" to you than to me. ;) Silly me...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the solo was "cut" from OMWF and inserted into this season... I think it was created post-OMWF, specifically for this episode, just meant to be a flashback to OMWF. Because you're right, the solo would make NO sense in the context of OMWF.
Why does a Spike/Buffy relationship bother you? I have to admit I missed most of season 4, where it was explained why Spike is not a bad guy anymore (yeah I understand the chip, but that doesn't make him stop being an EVIL DEMON)... but taking into account the fact that he IS alright and in touch with his human side, I think he and Buffy are great together. What they say in "Wrecked" is true - they're both alone, one-of-a-kind in their worlds, and therefore make perfect sense together. As much as Buffy and Angel did - Buffy was a lot more innocent in the first few seasons, so Angel was the better match, but now she has seen more and had some encounters with the dark side, making Spike the good mate. I do hope she "tells him" before the end of the show.
Although I would like to see ONE relationship actually work out where both the participants live happily! Grr (argh).
If you've caught tonight's episode, check out my main page rant. And, if you're interested, my one on buffyphilosophy.
