A fucking lame one! I always thought that masterbating was just one of those things that most people(especially males) just start doing before they even realize what's going on. Does he choose not to masterbate or is it that he simply has no sex drive?
I wonder why a person would make that choice. Masturbation is supposed to show that you are in good sexual, psychological health, and people who don't very rarely have healthy sexual relationships. From what I've read.
Hehe. That was unintentional. I was just trying to cover my ass because more and more are coming onto LJ to pick huge fights with people who don't put 3 hours of research into every comment they make. :-)
People fight over facts in the pro- and anti-war battles that happen on LJ. It happens on animals rights posts, religion posts, etc. People are constantly being challenged to back up what they say with real articles, books, interviews, etc. They fight over little things like grammar and trivia as well, but it gets a little scary sometimes. This is supposed to be a relaxed journal forum, you know?
True, some people think the opposite, that masturbation is a sign of an unhealthy sex life and low self-esteem. I remember reading an article via Fark.com about how therapists in Japan were saying that masturbation ruined relationships. *shrug*
From everything Cynthia and I have read (and we like to read this stuff a lot - for a while we both wanted to be sex therapists), the reason masturbation is considered healthy is because most people who masturbate are comfortable with their own sexuality. You need to be comfortable with your body and your own sexuality before you expect to bring another person (or people) into the picture. It also helps to know what you like before you expect another person to give it to you.
I think there was a group study somewhere of missionaries who were told to never have any form of premarital sex. When the missionaries eventually got married, their marriages suffered greatly because the partners had no idea how to touch each other. I think that's definitely a problem.
With all due respect to the Japanese, I don't know if one should take their views on sexual health seriously, especially since Japanese women have status approximately equal to the status of a United States woman in the mid-20th century.
Hmm... I wonder how many people I piss off on LJ (on average) each day...?
kind of related: in the personal ads here, there are innumerable ads for "american man looking for lonely japanese housewife." they always mention stuff like "i'll give you the pleasure you're not getting at home." it always makes me wonder if japanese men are really bad lovers, or if the women aren't taught to enjoy sex, or if american guys just think that bigger dicks make better lovers.
I was being sarcastic of course.. He must be a little strange thought because even though I can understand (on some level) why a 21 year old male may choose not to, I think that it is somewhat un natural that he 'never' has not even back in the days of puberty. Takes all kinds I suppose..

on 24 Mar 2003 18:45 (UTC)maybe it's like a super-intense "not having sex till i'm married" kind of thing.
