I am using Quicken to track my expenses, try and see where I spend money, etc. So I have several different categories for things: rent, fuel, gifts, telephone, etc. Here's my question. I wish to buy some alcoholic beverages to consume at tonight's goodbye-to-bassgirl-tank182-and-snuffelupagus party. Which category does it fall under?

Crap, I need to pay LJ again so I can put a poll in here. Oh well, here are your choices (I'm not putting in the obvious ones, like any I listed above) (I'll also add a few examples of what, so far this month, has been spent in these categories):

Dining (any meal eaten out of the house)
Entertainment (movies, tickets to baseball games)
Groceries (stuff to eat at the house)
Recreation (sewing supplies)
Snacks (cookies from the physics building, anything from a vending machine)

What categories it definitely does not fall under: education, fuel, household, gifts, medicine ;)

I don't understand ONE BIT why alcohol doesn't fall under medicine, but since you seem to think it doesn't (feh), I'll have to concur, entertainment. Recreation as a secondary choice if entertainment gets overruled.

since it's for a going-away party, I would regard it as a gift. otherwise, I regard alcohol purchases as entertainment or food, depending upon how/where I plan to consume it.

I would only consider it a gift if I weren't going to be drinking any of it, and if I wouldn't be offering it to people whose alcohol I would drink. Make sense? I will either be drinking this in leiu of what the rest of you buy (if I think it's nasty) or I will join it to the pool of liquor and then consider myself free to drink from the pool. Ew, mental image of pouring everything in a bathtub together and drinking from it.

just for the record, brooke's LJ is "superfly39" and mine is "snuffelupaguss" in case people followed the links...also, for some reason (possibly because of the presence of Crouch) I believe that Tequila shots are in order tonight. So, since I'm obviously not buying the booze (only 22 months left!) that's just my "Official suggestion"

update: john told me that he bought beer. so I will buy tequila, and any contribution will be appreciated. 750 ml sauza gold.

in fact, I'll go get it now so I can put it in the freezer. I have one lime that I'll bring. I will also bring margarita salt. someone should provide cups, and ice, and minute maid limeade concentrate.

beer: a low-alcoholic drink made from grain rather than fruit.

i disagree that alcohol does not fit into those catagories... yeah... i know this isn't helpfull.. but when have i ever helped?

education- though i don't see it this way... many see it as an important part of being in collage (luckly those who have the least brain cells... too bad the loss of those they have doesn't cause impotance and or death)

fuel - must... feed... fire

household - what household would be complete without at least a little?

gifts - i think someone covered this one already

medicine - gotta bad cough? drink whisky. that encounter with a questionable stranger left you with burning when you pee? drink whisky. your arm is rotting off? drink whisky (with the other hand, stupid)
