I slept for 9 hours. After going to bed at 5am. Can anyone recommend a method to start getting back on a normal sleep schedule? When I return to Norman, I'm going to have to start being awake at 8am for classes. I want this to be something feasible. Perhaps I'll just have to adopt Waylon's method of never, ever, for any reason, being awake past midnight.

psychologists say that the best way to get on a sleep schedule is to go to bed whenever you are tired, but get up at the same time everyday. your body will allegedly adjust itself to the amount of sleep necessary and you'll start getting tired at a time to give yourself adequate sleep. I have never tried this method; I always sleep late whenever I can, so I can't vouch for its effectiveness.

Does that count naps? If I start going to sleep whenever I'm tired at waking up at 8am, that will include at least a few days at the beginning where I'm getting very little sleep. I will be tired during the day and want to nap. However, that probably interferes with the whole process, huh?

I believe it would interfere. but the process is supposed to make you better adjusted in the long run.

after a month of the 8 to 5er i can attest that just waking up the same time every day with no naps works. but you have to do it every day! i'm lucky, if i didn't, i'd be fired. definately no naps. naps will fuck you all up if they're more then like half an hour. you just have to buckle down and be sleepy for a few days until your body clock resets. good luck!

good to know someone has experience with it :) I guess I should start trying... do you think I should work towards it, like starting by waking up every day at 9, and after that's okay, waking up at 8:30, etc... or should I just try and go for 8 starting now?
