Lush

rufinia's post about needing conditioner has reminded me that I haven't posted here about Lush. Not that Lush is some amazing life-changing thing that you all need to know about, but I don't know. It seems to be a brand that some people do care about.

So Lush is this store that does froofy body products like soaps, shampoos, deoderants, lip balms, and also even froofier bath things like their "bath bombs" they're known for. They hand-make everything, and a lot of their stuff they try to make in solids instead of liquids to avoid plastic packaging.

I am one of thousands of suckers willing to pay more money to feel like I'm being environmentally conscious. :P That said, I only first tried a Lush product because it claimed, or at least its online comments claimed, to specifically target my type of hair, AND I was just about to run out of my current bottle of shampoo. So I bought some Jumping Juniper solid shampoo and began using it after what I had ran out. And I gotta say, I like it. It does seem to be doing the trick for my hair, too, so woo.

When I got the shampoo I got free samples of two soaps, Karma and Snowcake. The Karma I didn't like at all, and the Snowcake I think was behind me itching for the next couple of days. I don't know what soap ingredient it is, but something in almost all soaps makes me itch like crazy. (It could be shea butter!) I'm glad I have a case of my Dove Pure & Natural, because otherwise the only other soap bar I've ever found to not leave me itchy was a bar that chaiya made a couple years ago. All I remember is it was made with oatmeal and claimed to be a winter bar. When I run out of my P&N case (in ten years) maybe I will try to hit her up for more. ;)

Since then I've tried Lush for conditioner, too, when that bottle ran out, but not a single one seems to be thick enough for what I need. The ends of my hair, being so long, are seriously in bad shape and need serious care, and nothing thin or watery is going to cut it. I tried some Retread and it didn't even do the job, and is about 5x the cost of conditioner I know works. So I'm assuming Lush conditioner isn't for me until they come out with something coating.

The next item I plan on trying to replace with a Lush product is deoderant. That will be fun. :P I think I'll wait until AFTER Arisia for that... EDIT: oh, and lip balm. I dropped my treasured stick of Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm sometime this last week, and winter wreaks havoc on my lips. Good thing I'm not really needing kissable lips any time soon. :P

family and my monkeysphere

I had the revelation earlier that my family is not in my monkeysphere. And yeah, I feel bad about this, because my background and culture says that one should have their families in their monkeyspheres. But... they're just not. :/ Every few weeks, I'll have a sudden thought of, "Oh, it's Mom's birthday soon," or, "Hm, I haven't talked to my father in a while," and I'll absolutely make plans to send a card or make a phone call, but an hour later I will have forgotten and won't remember again for another few weeks, when I will feel guilty for having forgotten. And boy, I am certainly in their monkeyspheres, so they think about me all the time or something. It's an interesting disparity and one that doesn't do anything to make me feel like a good person. Blegh.

It's getting close to Christmas, and my one thought of visiting my brother and sister-in-law for Dec 25 fell through because I didn't pursue it enough before they made other plans. Now I don't know if I should offer to my father that I could go visit his family if he went halvsies on the tickets with me, or just shrug and spend Christmas here. The holiday doesn't mean anything to me, and the visiting... I look forward to it, but not THAT much? I dunno. It's a holiday, and that's nice, and going on trips is fun, but I guess there's nothing in particular about visiting my dad that I look forward to. Although visiting my little half-brother would be fun.

I bet I'm not at all the first person to consider naming my LJ friends page "the monkeysphere."
