[livejournal.com profile] rufinia's post about needing conditioner has reminded me that I haven't posted here about Lush. Not that Lush is some amazing life-changing thing that you all need to know about, but I don't know. It seems to be a brand that some people do care about.

So Lush is this store that does froofy body products like soaps, shampoos, deoderants, lip balms, and also even froofier bath things like their "bath bombs" they're known for. They hand-make everything, and a lot of their stuff they try to make in solids instead of liquids to avoid plastic packaging.

I am one of thousands of suckers willing to pay more money to feel like I'm being environmentally conscious. :P That said, I only first tried a Lush product because it claimed, or at least its online comments claimed, to specifically target my type of hair, AND I was just about to run out of my current bottle of shampoo. So I bought some Jumping Juniper solid shampoo and began using it after what I had ran out. And I gotta say, I like it. It does seem to be doing the trick for my hair, too, so woo.

When I got the shampoo I got free samples of two soaps, Karma and Snowcake. The Karma I didn't like at all, and the Snowcake I think was behind me itching for the next couple of days. I don't know what soap ingredient it is, but something in almost all soaps makes me itch like crazy. (It could be shea butter!) I'm glad I have a case of my Dove Pure & Natural, because otherwise the only other soap bar I've ever found to not leave me itchy was a bar that [livejournal.com profile] chaiya made a couple years ago. All I remember is it was made with oatmeal and claimed to be a winter bar. When I run out of my P&N case (in ten years) maybe I will try to hit her up for more. ;)

Since then I've tried Lush for conditioner, too, when that bottle ran out, but not a single one seems to be thick enough for what I need. The ends of my hair, being so long, are seriously in bad shape and need serious care, and nothing thin or watery is going to cut it. I tried some Retread and it didn't even do the job, and is about 5x the cost of conditioner I know works. So I'm assuming Lush conditioner isn't for me until they come out with something coating.

The next item I plan on trying to replace with a Lush product is deoderant. That will be fun. :P I think I'll wait until AFTER Arisia for that... EDIT: oh, and lip balm. I dropped my treasured stick of Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm sometime this last week, and winter wreaks havoc on my lips. Good thing I'm not really needing kissable lips any time soon. :P

This might sound weird, but take the after-color conditioner from dye-in-a-box hair color. Some sell it separately, but it's amazing deep conditioning. It keeps my hair supersoft, shiny, and sleek, and there's not an inch of my hair that goes un-dyed. It should be frizzy, but the special conditioner keeps it in excellent shape. (I save the conditioner and use it later on, too. =D)

Oh yeah, I have used after-color conditioner before (after, you know, coloring) and it is really nice stuff. I'm currently using.. um... here. Dove Intense Damage Therapy Conditioner (http://www.dove.us/#/Products/Hair/IntenseDamageConditioner.aspx/) It's only $5 a bottle, I can get it at both drugstores near my house, and leaves my hair very nice-feeling. A+!

Oh, I know just the deep conditioner for you. It's called Soulmate, and is all natural and handmade by an etailer called CocoaPink. It's expensive ($13.49 for 6 ounces) but it's concentrated and you don't need a lot. It comes in lots of yummy scents, and you can order trial sizes to see if you like a scent before buying a full size product.

Ilona (the owner) also makes some lighter daily conditioners, as well as a super-deep treatment hair mask. And lots of other beauty products in yummy scents.

The website is http://www.cocoapink.net/

I have some samples of Soulmate in scents that didn't work for me. Want me to send them to you? I can also send you lotions, body scrubs, lip balms, perfume samples, etc, if you use those. Tell me what sort of products you use and I'll send you a girly care package!

Eeee care package! I love care packages. :D I use shampoo and conditioner and soap and shower/body scrub face wash and deoderant and lip balm, and that's pretty much it. I don't really lotion, don't really use perfume. *looks at website* Hehe, they have a conditioner called "Ends with Benefits." Love it!

Yay! If you go to my LJ mainpage there's a sticky post at the top with my address in it. Thank you! <3

Woo! This is good - it means I won't miss the package from being out of town. ;) Yay! Thank you. :)

Dammit, dammit, dammit.

Now I have to try their stuff, too. That's a neat site!

Well, if you like lotions and perfumes, you can have my samples of those from CocoaPink. And I have lotion and perfume and makeup stuff from other places that I'd love to pass along to someone who might use it.

Well, I am a total and irreversible bath junkie. And I'm all about trying things out before buying them That would be rad if you're willing to part with them!

It would make me happy to give away the stuff that doesn't work for me, cause I can never bring myself to throw it out, and it sits around making me feel guilty.

My email address is in my LJ profile. Email me and let me know when you're working this next week, and I'll bring a box of stuff by the library for you--I'll be there to pick up some books anyway.

When I have things I won't use, I have the luxury of putting them on the "free stuff" table in the library staff kitchen. I don't know why there aren't more of those around.

Ooooooooooooooooh, I love Lush. So so so much. I even braved the crowds on Black Friday to take advantage of their spend-$40-get-$10-free deal. The bath bombs and bubble bars are my absolute favorites. If you ever take baths, you should try one out!

What conditioner do you use that works better? My hair is also in need of some serious care.

I don't really do baths that much, so I haven't checked out these crazy bath bombs that people keep raving about. ;) Plus, I have about a decade's worth of collected gift bubble bath and bath salts and things that I would want to use up before I bought anything else for a bath!

I use Dove Intense Damage Therapy Conditioner.

Have you tried their" Vegenase" (i think thats the name) conditioner? That's what the gf uses, and she swears by it...

I was given the Veganese, and I can't take it anymore. My hair is just as long as Judea's, and the veganese did nothing to help with detangling at all- I can't even brush anything out. It's jsut too light. It worked the first wash, but after that it was awful.

Judea, they tried to sell me on some Hair masks which I couldn't afford now, but here are the options:

Of course, if the $5 a bottle stuff works, yay you! I like the fact that my color is looking great for three months out.

Yeah... the woman I spoke to when I was looking at conditioners in their store recommended Marilyn. For blond hair. Um... maybe I should not listen to that woman.

Looks like H'Suan Wen Hua might be worth a try sometime. But damn, expensive.

on 5 Dec 2008 04:19 (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] rufinia.livejournal.com
Yeah, mine said something about the Marilyn to me, too, and then added "If you hair isn't colored..." and I have a decent set of roots growing right now. So that's a no.

Even so, $16 for a tub that big is better than the $85 1.5 oz tub of facial moissterizer they have. SERIOUSLY.

Jesus. What's in it, unicorn horn? Jesus's tears?

Eh. On the grounds it says it "gently detangles" it doesn't sound like it's going to have enough oomph for me. I generally have to use stuff that says "extra strength." :)

I will totally give you more soap. In fact, one of the reasons why I want you to check out the shea butter potential allergy is that it's my plan to give little gift soaps to my Arisia minions this year. :)

I have also made some super-mild mostly-olive-oil soaps, which should have next to no allergen possibilities, if all else fails.

I am also a huge fan of some Lush products, and Burt's Bees lip balm. Although I try to make my own lip balm when I can. :)

Hooray! Well, like I said, I literally have a case of the Dove soap that I've used for years now, so I'm not in need of soap any time soon. But I won't turn it down, either. ;) I assume we can explore shea butter at the mini-meeting this weekend?

on 5 Dec 2008 14:38 (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] chaiya.livejournal.com
That is totally the plan. :)

Can I ask you a favor, re the meeting this weekend? Would you be willing to pick up a jug of apple cider on your way over? I'm trying to make sure we have options other than tea and water, but I'm going to be in OH until Sunday, so I can't do much prep stuff.

Yep, that is no problem. Mmm, apple cider. :)
