juldea: (geek girl)
[personal profile] juldea
So, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] zigdon and his mad l33t coding skills of a client that meshes with my usage patterns, I am now using Twitter. Specifically, I am juldea there, like I am almost everywhere.

I've had Twitter for almost a week now, and definitely am enjoying it for the quick posting of one-liners or one-offs that I think the world or at least my friends would find amusing. Things like, "Awesome - officially recognized as "IT coordinator" at work. Still prefer "Hot IT Girl" though," and, "Doh, totally just faceplanted on the steps at Kenmore. Face OK, shin hurts. :(" So now, having bought into this system, I am of course wondering about also doing the LoudTwitter thing and posting my day's twitters to LJ at the end of the day. But, because I love making semblances of democracies in my life, I'm asking you all what you think first.

Don't do it.

Yeah, the daily twitter post isn't that big a deal when it shows up on my friendspage, but it makes your lj history unreadable. As evidence, may I present:

I guess... I don't see a problem with any of that? I'm not dismissing your input, it's good to know that YOU find that unreadable, but to me... eh. I guess I rarely look at people's history, I just read my friends list as it pops up.

But like I said, not dismissed.

I don't do it very often, either. But occasionally I'll want to go back to a post a person made a week ago, but if it was made by a loudtwit, I can't find it. :(

Considering I tend to read them on Twitter, I am not a fan of rereading. But worse, I see too many LJs that have nothing but twitter posts for days, and that's just sad :(

So my vote is no.

I'd see why having the combined history might be useful though. Damn. If only there was a way you can have them post here, but by default, NOT have it show. Oh - wouldn't it be trivial to just have a protected tweeting group, and add people who want to see tweets to that group? Kinda of the best of both world, except that it's up to you to add and remove people...?

THAT might work... I wonder if LoudTwitter is set up to post to a specific friends group? I know it does tags...

For my part, I rarely read Twitter posts when they're under cuts. I honestly don't think they get long enough to warrant cuts (unless you're going mad and twittering like 15 times a day, and even then...).
