Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] shadowravyn's recent post displaying the images she found online to depict one of her gaming characters, I began searching around to find pictures for my character in [livejournal.com profile] londo's Tuesday night game.

Do you know how fucking difficult it is to find fantasy artwork of a female cleric (or female of any type) who is moderately dressed? This is painful! This is the mini I use, and a good depiction of how dressed I want to be.

I have found these, of which none are accurate:
  • This is supposedly a picture of Goldmoon, though I don't know her to have ever been out of her furs. Still, right Goddess at least, but I don't wield that particular staff, just a quarterstaff.
  • This is at least a decently-attired human female, but the coloring and weaponry is all wrong.
  • This is not great quality and also a bit too Mary Sue for me. Sure my character is blond, but that's just because that was an easy color to paint the mini!
  • This is an official image from the D&D website, but once again, the coloring and weaponry are wrong.
  • Ooh, this is not bad. Being black and white, I could edit out the mace entirely and the top of the staff. Hmmmm...
  • Mmmm, pretty!
  • This is pretty darned good...
  • She is dressed well.

I will probably continue adding pictures to this post as I go.

Point of note: This image is pretty poignant, and [livejournal.com profile] nerdx111 might like it.

Hrmm...your best bet might just be Lineage 2 screenshots. A variety of staffs and robe sets. The problem I'm having is finding a character generator that shows off the armour sets. This http://www.lineage2-online.com/gallery/albums/animations/human_mystic_female.gif is a good screenie, but has red hair. Is it to late to change your characters hair color? :P I'll keep looking for a bit...

That is showing MUCH too much skin for my character. :P But good call... there might be something in that game that works.

Well, www.ivory-tower.de has the complete set of robes for this game. A nice convenient set of menus for you to browse through. The only catch is brunette, and no weapon. Grades A and C are your best bets I think. If yer handy with photoshop, can change the hair color, and I can get you the games list of weapons, with several staffs containing blue crystals... Oh, for complete slut-wear in the game, Check out the Dark elves robe sets.

    What do the "grades" mean?

This is fun to play with. Thanks. :)

Grades are built into the game. Essentially depending on your level as to what grade of equipment you are allowed to wear. D is 2nd lowest level, and it goes up to A grade. S grade is actually the highest, but I have no idea why they changed the way the scale works. The official lineage 2 website contains a bunch of noobs, so the robe pictures do not work there. However, they do have some very pretty weapons...wielded by ugly orcs.

Okay, so yeah, I want something lower-grade to be without too much glitz and glamour. This will provide fine entertainment during work...

Well, if you gimmie more details, I could probably check into the games 2 week trial versions. The higher the grade, the more likely for glitz and glamour there is. Also, info on what you consider to much skin would be helpful, since this game is korean based and isnt shy about skin. If you dont't mind looking like a 13 year old girl, the dwarven robes are VERY cool looking. But that's glitz and glamour.... Anyways, the non-grade stuff is the most plain, but I would need to set up a 2 week free trial. Although it would give you the most options for hair style and color. If yer interested, I could get you a screenshot within 1-2 days of the NG stuff. Only a basic staff though, the higher end weapons take awhile to obtain.

See, she is very non-glitz and non-glamorous, and VERY basic. This is a 3rd level character, still very low-level. She's got cloth robes only because they're a symbol of her order, so they're not highly decorated, and her quarterstaff is basically a really nice stick found in the woods. That's part of the reason it's so hard to find art for her online; no one wants to draw plain characters, they want to draw epic stuff! I'm beginning to think I should try to draw it myself, if I have lots of free time sometime. :)

Also, being a low-level character, she's 17. Perhaps 18. So looking 13 is... not perfect, but might be acceptable - although you said that's where the glitz lies, so I don't want to go there.

As to "how much skin": naive-ish 17-year-old lawful good cleric of healing goddess. She's not one to show cleavage. Bare arms are fine. Her legs are going to be covered down to her shoes; leggings are okay if she's got something covering those, too, like her robe.

    That help? :)

Also, THANK YOU for helping me! This is awesome!

Just a follow up. The korean version of L2 isnt blocked at work, and their web coders ain't noobs. The lower grade robes all tend to be very short dresses, with calf high boots. I did manage to find a nice, but still looks realistic set with leggings all the way up to the dress. http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/info/item/armor/armordetail?itemId=426&type=magic&aKind=chest&cType=all&searchKey=

When you view the site, it will bring up the male version. To the right of the portraits feet will be 2 drop down menus. The bottom one will have 2 options, female is the lower option.

The only other alternative is the Karmian set, which is C grade. It's pretty much a solid green color, and shows a bit of upper calf. The ivory-tower.de website has this listed under C grade. I might, just might be able to pull off C grade with time, although there are a lot more screenshots with this armour set (popular). I could aim for a screenshot angle that doesnt actually show any skin on the legs.

Lastly, if I do go the make a character for the screenshot route, You get loads of options. Hairstyle seems to favor blonde, but length of hair? Any peference for character name?(assuming its not taken) I can give you a variety of backgrounds, such at woods, city, tropical beaches, swamp, desert, ice? The dragon in the back ground will be...more difficult.

Yes, I'm so very very very bored at work. Lemme know what you want, and I'll probably start downloading the game when I get home late tonight.

So I don't think I need you to sign up for the game and play for two weeks just for me, especially when I know I'm going to be ultra-choosy about this and probably not like anything you find. ;) Honestly those are all too "anime" for what I'm looking for, which I just might end up drawing myself!

That said, the closest thing I've found is from the ivory-tower.de website, this combination: Human Mage, Female, D, Robe, Mithril. I feel like that robe could be photoshopped to be floor-length and blue. The hair is all wrong, though. ;) I'm thinking more long, wavy, and on the brown/blonde spectrum.

Well, the 2 weeks was only if you had desired the Karmian Robe set. (C grade) The lower end staffs and robe sets wouldnt take more than a few hours to obtain. The korean website I mentioned earlier has a set with no skin showing and wouldnt take more than an hour or 2 of game time to obtain. Also, I would have been able to control camera angle, and remove those silly things like....bare skin. Anyways, just for fun, check out the ivory-tower.de website for the following combo: Dark Elf, female, D, Light, Salamander skin. That's supposed to be a full set of armour. You know that stuff that protects you from sharp metal pointy things.....

Haha! That's a lot of exposed skin for pointy things to get at, there!

Perhaps I should play this game for a couple of hours and see what I can do, then. Does it cost money? >_>

Actually, that's one of the things I'm trying to figure out. The normal game is an MMO like WoW, so yes it would cost money. However, they used to offer free 2 week trials. It seems that due to massive abuse by money farmers, they have shut those down, or at least severely restricted availability. I'll look into it more when I get home and can get past all the wonderful wonderful filters at work.

Well, it seems the free trials are promotion or from friend only. The cheapest I saw the 2 week trial was $2, but not from a site I think I remotely trust. I'm gonna guess you will go another route. :/ Although if you can get a friend who is a top notch photoshopper, the ingredients are there. Sorry for it all ending up going nowhere.

No, it's cool, I loved seeing all the things that could be done with it, and it certainly generated ideas! Thank you for helping!
