It has been almost exactly a year since we moved into our current apartment in the Central Square area.1 Due to the upcoming Dragonlance game [livejournal.com profile] londo is running, we might actually be finishing unpacking sometime soon. We are clearing out the living room, at least.

Keroppi's shocked face in the user icon should be pretty indicative of how this makes me feel.

1. Also, almost a year since my big bout with bug bite/cellulitis/pain/infection/sadness. I'm going to try restarting exercise with some low-impact aerobics tapes I have collected over the years (look, college friends!) (gotta love early '90s aerobics tapes) and hopefully I will not start having the same old hip joint pain. I will be very sad if I do.

Any advice on trying to move a family of 4 into a small 2 bedroom place and not go insane when going from a house with 2400 sq ft total to something with maybe 1000?

I'm not sure how I'm going to manage this with the move and really don't know how much furniture etc I can dump before we have to cram it all in somewhere... I'm looking for advice. *g*

Hah! No clue - we're only a family of 4 if the cats count, and we've never even had 1000 sq ft of space to work with! Sorry. Maybe someone else on my friends' list who reads this can help, though.

You already said it - dump as much furniture (and other stuff!) as you can. Otherwise, you will end up having to put it in storage somewhere. You'll be paying to store it and not use it; so unless this move is a temporary measure, it's probably not worth it.

In all seriousness, examine every large item you have, and ask "do we really need this? Does it have so much sentimental value it would hurt to leave it behind?" We accumulate so much stuff that we don't need, just because a relative gave it to us, or it "might come in handy some day". It's not worth it to hang on to all that stuff, especially if you don't have room for it.

I've been living in my apartment in NYC for almost a year too, and I still have boxes :( (and a LOT more boxes at my parent's place).

The week I moved in I said i needed a new desk and a new chair and a bookcase, and i have none of the 3.

londo finally got a new chair after the one he was using finally lost all idea of what kind of flat plane he should be seated on and started tilting all over the place. This was after, of course, the back fell off and the chair lift stopped working, causing him to sit in really uncomfortable ways (on his legs) to be at the proper height for working at his desk. ;)

We have yet to get bookshelves, though. All of our books are in boxes under the bed.

That's why our bed frame stands on top of four cement blocks. Extra storage space for the win!

Sweet! I've never known anyone who actually had one of those.

It looks like a cabinet when it's closed...

Jealous of you I am. I'm pretty sure I still have boxes from three moves ago. Maybe four.
