Another solution to my banking woes is to just get a scanner. However, the cheapest one at the Staples next door to work is $70, and that's not worth it to me. Does anyone have an old scanner they don't use much anymore or for other reasons are looking to offload? I can either pay or barter with knitting. :) Also, if it's somehow both a scanner and a printer (do those exist?) my household technically could use either. Thanks. (Now, off to Craigslist to look.)

I've got a spare ScanMaker 5900 that's been sitting unused for 3+ years. I can check to see if it's still working this weekend; if it is, you're welcome to it.

Well, since a lot of people who wouldn't have to pay shipping costs also seem willing to help out, I will thank you but it's probably not necessary. But -- yes, thanks for offering! I appreciate it. :)
