juldea: (piloting!)

Well, dammit. So the job I interviewed at last week called me back yesterday. They didn't say either yes or no; they asked me if I was okay with the commute, and told me to recheck their new office address. I was out of the house, so I told her I'd get back to her today.

I of course forgot until a little while ago. I punched in the address in Google Maps and compared it to the MBTA bus map. The new office is indeed just down the road from a bus stop on the airport route, but just down the road turns out to be 1.2 miles. So... I'd be leaving my house in the morning, walking 10-15 minutes to the subway, taking the red line from Central to Alewife, transferring to the 76 bus, staying on it for about 45 minutes until it swings past the airport on its return route, and then walking another 20 minutes to the office. If you can't tell by now, this won't work. I can handle an hour commute (if I'm doing something I enjoy,) but close to two is unacceptable.

This sucks mightily. The only people to have called me back and who gave me a really good feeling in the interview are moving to offices I can't get to easily. I had a good cry over this, talked to londo about it a bit, and now am going to go make lunch and do dishes so I stop worrying about my life/career prospects for a while.

I feel like it's a good sign that they cared so much about your opinion. I mean, they seem to find you both employable and desirable, so hopefully other places will as well.
