Er, in that last one, instead of "never realizing" substitute "uncaring of" or something like that.

There are lots of other possibilities...

• Read and wallowed in one's own emo-ness for a few hours
• Read and clawed one's eyes out at the banality
• Read and not understood because one still lives in one's parent's basement
• Read and became sad that you're old enough to be the author's parent

I also think that "never realizing" .NE. "uncaring of". So that's one more.
