I had a big, long, interesting Livejournal post written out (and it was cut, so that it didn't clog up everyone's friends pages) and the computer froze up and I lost all of it. I'm not feeling well, I’ve had a bad day, and then that happens. ARRRRRGHHHH!!!
So, let's retry this, eh? Maybe I will type this all out in a word file so it saves regularly.
I suggest that if you think you will comment on anything, you open up the comments page in a separate window right now (or open up a notepad/word file) and just type the comments as you come across them. I promise these cuts are REALLY HUGE and by the end, you might have forgotten all you want to comment on!
Okay, now for the long bits, which I will cut with my new LJ knowledge (woo
adalius! They're separated into My Birthday Weekend, and Monday.
My Birthday Weekend
Dad, Travis, Emily, Deanna, Trumpy (the dog), and I all drove up to Mema and Papa’s in two cars on Friday night. We got there and all unpacked our overnight stuff, and I got presents!!! Trav and Em got me a really beautiful purple rug for my room (they saw it from my wishlist!) that fits perfectly at the side of my bed as if it were measured for there. Deanna (and Blake) got me a tube top (Deanna says to use it as a bathing suit coverup, which sounds smart) and a really really neat canvas Powerpuff Girls visor – I’ll put a picture up when I can, so Nick can be jealous. *grin* Dad got me Bath & Body Works stuff – one shower scrub gel and one body spray each of Cucumber Melon and Sun-Ripened Raspberry – and he didn’t even know the raspberry was my favorite!! So that was very wonderful.
Then, the whole eight of us went to the world-famous Murphy’s Steak House in Bartlesville, OK… I say world-famous because one time on an airplane to see Jason, I read an article from the flight magazine on the five best french fries in the US, and Murphy’s was in there. They are famous for their “Hot Hamburger”, which is a slice of texas toast, topped with a hamburger patty, covered in yummy straight-from-the-potato french fries, with (this is their slogan, on all their t-shirts and such) “gravy over all”. I know Rachel doesn’t find it appetizing, but it’s delicious. You can get cheese in there on the hamburger, and sautéed onions over it all, and… yum. It’s delicious. I definitely took Margaret’s advice not to worry about eating healthy when I got one of those for my birthday dinner! :)
We went back to the grandparents’ for the rest of the night (a lot of basketball was watched, my grandparents’ are into that) and spent the night there. Woke up the next morning, had home-cooked breakfast (I don’t know how my grandmother makes wonderful TOAST, but she does!), and drove home. Dad stayed behind for more time with his parents, and all of us kids (and the dog) drove back. Deanna and I left together, stopped by the post office to get tax forms for her, stopped by a Sanrio store (Hello Kitty, Keroppi, etc) we saw on the way, and ended up at her apartment doing taxes. She made so little that she got all her money back, the bitch. ;)
While there, I got a phone call from Karen. She and Waylon (and Lyle, although he didn’t end up coming!) wanted to take me out to a movie. It was kind of suspicious, since she said they didn’t know what, where, or when, but I said I’d come back to Norman and shower and we could go. I did, and we ended up deciding to go to Shawnee to see Amelie (that’s the closest to Norman it was playing). Goldbug woke up and took some time deciding if she wanted to go – I left the house first for Karen’s, and she eventually showed up there. Karen and I decided we were hungry, so we called Pad Thai. Karen ordered her food, and then I heard this on her end of the conversation:
“Do you know Juldea? Well, yesterday was her birthday, and… Is Num working tonight? Well, she wanted to know if he could make her something special for her birthday.”
:) Waylon picked up the food for us, and when it got to Karen’s house, there were spring rolls and delicious soy sauce noodles with chinese broccoli for me! And the spring rolls and my food were free! PLUS, I got a card in there from the Pad Thai staff – it says Happy Birthday and has all their names on it (Num, Nui, Au, Dawn, Lek, Neung, Yong, Pook, and Ta – I only know faces for the first 3 names, and I can guess who Dawn is, but I don’t know all the others!).
We ate up and left for the movie. Robert joined us. The movie was wonderful and great and I liked it a lot. Afterwards, we saw Thom and Natalie in the theater, about to see the next showing! That was really cool.
We were on our way home when Karen (or goldbug?) got a phone call saying we were supposed to go see the Therogy show at the Quarterhouse. So we headed there, but got there right as they ended. Sigh. However, I got presents from them, too – a new microphone and guitar!! They deflate rather quickly, though. ;)
At that point, we returned to Karen’s. Everyone was just chillin’ out, having a mellow time. I wanted to play some Super Smash Brothers. At this point, it was about 11pm. I was happy with what my friends had done for me for my birthday. I got free food, and a free movie, and was going to play a video game I actually ENJOY playing (that’s not common)! Plus, Waylon was giving me a very nice backrub. He had been very nice for the whole night, even. :)
Waylon decided he wanted to play some DDR. I was into that, but I wanted to play more Smash Brothers first. So we played a few games, and then we headed to my house to play DDR – we couldn’t do it at Karen’s because it was too late to hop around on the 2nd floor. I took the lead to open the front door, just because my keys were in my hand already, opened the door, and...
“SURPRISE!!!” Brendan, Penny, and Kate were in my living room playing Uno! I seriously was surprised, and even went, “Aaahh!”. At that point, I had figured there would be no surprise – it was 11pm and all! And I had already gotten a great birthday from my friends!
It turns out it was all a ruse to get me out of the house so that those three could bake me a cake. Hooray! It was a very yummy cake, although most of the ingredients are still secret (they wouldn’t tell us, sniffle). I know it had some carrot in it. I liked it a lot, it wasn’t too sweet, and I dislike really sweet cakes. And it was warm. Both of those things also were happy for my sore mouth!
I called work, where I was supposed to show up at midnight (this was Saturday night), and told them that my friends had given me a surprise party and I didn’t want to come to work! Phillip said it was cool and that he’d put me on call. So we rented some movies (Legally Blonde, The Usual Suspects, and Memento), Lyle arrived and made ice cream drinks, and had a good night. We didn’t get to Memento, I think I might watch it tomorrow night (anyone is welcome to come over!). I ended up going to bed at 4!
…and woke up at 10 on Sunday morning, disgruntled. ;) I had to be at Travis and Emily’s at 11 for breakfast with everyone – dad was driving back from Bartlesville. Everyone gathered (Blake came along this time!) and we headed to this hotel breakfast buffet that Travis and Emily like – it was great! Very good food. While there, I realized that we were near the store Linen’s & Things – Dad had given me a $100 gift certificate for that store for Christmas, but I was never up in NW OKC to use it. So Emily and I headed over there for some fun shopping while everyone else went back to Trav and Em’s. I splurged – I got a new bed pillow which I needed, a moon-and-star print throw pillow which I didn’t need, a soft lavender fleece blanket, a new white hair towel (the twist kind) to replace the old dingy one (which will now be a hair dye towel!), and a terrycloth wrap thing – it’s like a big towel with elastic on one long end, and a velcro closure, so I wrap it around my body over my chest and secure it with the velcro and I can walk around the house with it on after a shower! Very neat. And I still have $30 left on that gift card!
So Emily and I returned to her apartment, and sat around with the rest of the family for a while. I read Maus 1 while everyone else watched Nascar racing. It ended up being time for Travis, Emily, and Deanna to go to work, so Dad drove down to Norman with me and we sat around my apartment for a while. Dad petted the cats, which is very nice. He’s not a cat person. It came time for me to go to work at Papa John’s, so we drove over there together and I made him a pizza to take to Deanna’s place for the three of them (Dad, Deanna, Blake) to have for dinner. Then we went out to the car and made our sniffly goodbyes (he really really misses us, and I miss him). He drove off, and I commenced working. I got off early that night, which was nice. Dale used that against me last night when making me work late, though. The dork.
That’s it for the birthday weekend. Aren’t you glad I didn’t post that uncut? Imagine how long your friends’ page would be!
Monday
Went to work on Monday… it was incredibly busy. I had asked Caleb to come in early, at 11, so that I could leave for Matrix’s vet appointment at 11:30. I guess he forgot. I left at 11:15 and called the vet to tell them I’d be late. I had taken so many incoming calls that all the messages from the whole morning were still not checked. I later found out from Caleb that he took 6 incoming calls and returned 24 messages. 30 is the greatest number of calls any day that I have recorded so far, going through the call logs, so it’s quite possible that yesterday was the busiest day ever. We’ll have to see.
Anyway, I got home and packed up Matrix in the carrier and took her to the vet. While Pixel’s car-meow is small and pitiful, like a whimper, Matrix’s is a full-out froke-out whine. I can do a good impression of it, but obviously it wouldn’t come across on livejournal ;)
The vet visit was great – she’s perfectly healthy, gorgeous, and has beautiful eyes – the vet said all of this! She got her vaccinations, and she weighs a HUGE 8 pounds 12 ounces!!! Humor me as I exclaim about how big that is. :)
Then she got to sit in the car while I went to the dentist’s office (since I was nearby) to talk about payment (my dad can call in and give them a credit card number) and also to the bank. It was Bank of Oklahoma, where I have my car loan, and I made my penultimate payment. I asked them about the last payment, since that is the one you have to ask about (depending on if you’ve incurred any late fees, paid off stuff early and have a smaller payment, etc), and if I paid it then it would’ve been only $176 – my normal payment is $184. So I know I don’t have any late fees, and any time this month I can go in and pay that off and the car is mine!!! :)
I went home, let Matrix loose, and woke up goldbug – I wanted her to accompany me on an adventure. First we went and ate thai food (yum), and then we headed to the state fairgrounds to see a computer liquidation sale I had heard about on the radio the night before – desktops for $99, laptops for $199! Turns out the radio was dumb, and the show had ended the day before. The commercial just had kept playing. Blah. So we drove back, stopping at the newish electronics store on I-240 that I can’t remember the name of, only to be disappointed at their selection and prices. We also stopped at the Computer Masters store in Norman – I bought my first desktop from them in Edmond years ago, and was very happy with the service. I asked them if they did any type of financing, since I’ve decided I want a desktop ASAP and am willing to pay monthly payments for one. They said that they actually were going to start financing sometime in the next few weeks! So that makes me happy. They’re a good store, and I can basically build my own computer from scratch from them.
Then we came home, and I took a nap until work. Then work, and it’s all pretty normal from there...
So, whew. I’m glad I got that all out of my system! Now I feel like everyone is caught up. I also feel better about the fact that I didn't lose the whole thing this time. Phew.
Another post following this, and then I'm done...
