siderea has written a wonderful memo to anyone who uses the phrase, "I'm a Christian, but..." It's enjoyable (and quick!) reading for those who don't use that phrase, too.
You know... I could think of about twenty other things that the stereotypical "red state" Christian should alter about their behavior that would be more useful and beneficial than that. (I.e., reading books which discuss critical thinking would go a long way by itself...) The use of the wrong conjunction is, frankly, in the context of Christianity's history and effect on current world affairs, an extremely superficial error.
That is, it's the substance of what they say (and do, moreover) that really need correction, not the mechanics of how they say it.
Then again, I am in a rather bitter mood this week... which is gonna make me react to most things with inappropriate bitchiness...
*poke* I think that her post was quite clearly written to LIBERAL Christians, the ones who aren't stereotypical "red state" Christians, and who need to speak up in opposition to the current stereotypical red state viewpoints.
Good points. A friend of mine likes to refer to "fundies", and I constantly point out to him that you could call me a "fundie" and I share much of the same beliefs... BUT I'm not an intolerant bigot (which he seems to assume all "fundies" are.) Suppose I should change that to AND or THEREFORE, as well, hm..?
pardon me, but i noticed your current music is a song i never heard of from brand new. I am totally obcessive from Deju entanu and shocked i haven't heard of it before. Did they come out with a new cd after DE and never heard of it before?
It's off of a movie soundtrack they contributed to, the soundtrack to Beer: The Movie. Here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009B594/qid=1136004427/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-7342624-4385606?v=glance&s=music&n=507846
