Due to unanimous effort on the part of my friends list to inform me that no, this isn't normal levels of pain, I did get out the little sheet that tells me who to call in case of "prolonged, severed discomfort or concern."

The Oral Surgery Resident on call told me that indeed, it could be a dry socket, although he couldn't tell without seeing me. He told me that I could take twice as much ibuprofen as I thought I could - 800mg! - just not to take it more often than every 8 hours. I figure this means that even if it works, I'll be miserable again in four, but hey - I'll have a few hours of relief. I hope. It hasn't done anything yet. Also to rinse with warm salt water. Oh, and the important bit, to show myself first thing in the morning to the office and get seen.

Rar.

So, off to attempt to distract myself more.

Don't quote me on it, but in Soviet Russia, the advil takes you was administered in 800 mg doses, meant to be taken every 2-4 hours. According to my sources.

Hmmm. Saying they did something one way in Soviet Russia is not necessarily the same as suggesting that course of action. ;)

Oof. That's a lot. But it's good to know it's feasible...

I had 800mg tablets prescribed to me with the precaution of taking on a full stomach, so one every meal.

I take 800mg on a regular basis. I used to do it frequently on an emptyish stomach, but decided that was just dumb.

I took 800 mg at a time, sometimes once and sometimes every 4 hours, for severe headaches and for knee pain. I did that for years. There are potential issues if you keep doing it for years and years, especially if you are older (or so my mom's doctor told her, but I don't remember what the issues are), but a day or two won't hurt you. Of course, my body mass was and is considerably more than yours, but I still think you'd be ok. Though more recently a doctor told me not to exceed 2400 mg in 24 hrs. I personally never had nausea or stomach problems, even on an empty stomach, except first thing in the morning before breakfast. And even then I only got nauseous if I was riding the T immediately afterwards (still without eating). But everyone's different; I was going to comment on your earlier post that it's quite possible that your nausea yesterday was caused by more asparin and ibuprofin than your body is used to, with not enough in your stomach to buffer it. But that's probably already occurred to you.

Of course, nowadays I'm not allowed to take asparin or ibuprofin or aleve at all. Tylenol only. Which, I might add, is not an anti-inflamatory, which is too bad when it comes to my knees.

Anyway, I'll keep you in mind. My sympathies.

Thanks for the info!

I was more thinking that the nausea was caused by less percocet than I had become used to.. it's supposed to be pretty habit-forming, after all.

True, but probably not the amount you took for the length of time you took it. I was on oxycodone (the short acting version of oxycontin) for at least a month after my surgery, and did not experience noticable withdrawal symptoms. Though I did taper off of it over about a week.

(My mom on the other hand, who took increading amounts of both oxycontin and oxycodone for over a year due to her shingles, definately experienced withdrawal.)

Regardless, it's another thing to ask the doctor about.
