Uh oh... I seem to be over 3/4 through the book, in two days. They were weekend days with much time for reading, however. But even though it's now the busy week... I'll be done with this book in the next couple of days, and I can already tell I should have the next in the trilogy near on-hand, or I will weep with frustration and longing.

Much like I do when londo is far away. ;)

I was immensely sad when I finished the third book... it was one of those series that I didnt want to end. Especially after just three books! (Though I was happy with the way that it did come to a close.)

oh,oh... another book you may enjoy (since you like Kushiel's Dart)is Maia, by Richard Adams. (Yes, the Watership Down guy.) Its a richly detailed, fabulous book. It may be out of print now... if I happen to find another copy of it would you like me to send it to you?

I heard rumor there's another trilogy coming after it, building upon a character who doesn't even exist yet as far as I'm reading... (therefore, don't spoil me!)

I haven't heard that. If I recall correctly, her next book is going to be in a different universe. But I may be confusing her with another author/series.

At least you don't have to wait for her to write the next two books in this series.

Okay, the way it works is this: She has a duology out right now (well, the second is being released this year) which is supposed to be really good. However, she has already written all three of the books in the next D'Angeline trilogy (tentatively named Kushiel's Scion trilogy) and they are currently in the editing process. Her excuse to those of us clamoring for the next installment--she really wanted to write those other 2 books, and hunger makes the nest sauce. Since everyone I know who reads these books is planning on going out and buying hardcover editions of the next Kushiel book, I'd say her plan is working.

When you're done with the Kushiel's Legacy trilogy, I've got another awesome trilogy for you to read; Anne Bishop's Black Jewels. Ahh, Daemon, you sexy sexy man....

I had been eyeing the Anne Bishop books at the bookstore not too long ago... but I hadnt heard anything about them. (Not that I only buy books I have heard about, but with my collection threatening to choke out small countries, I have been trying to pare back a teensy bit...)

Are they in the same vein (so to speak) as the Kushiel series?

They are sexy and political like Kushiel but that's about where the similarities end. The Black Jewels are high fantasy (much more magic) and deal with different worlds. The series isn't as lush or sensually written as Carey's, but still very very good. It can be occasionally disturbingly erotic (sex like in the zenana, if you know what I mean). They're a good read, much faster than Kushiel. I highly suggest them. I've gone through 2 sets so far, and everybody who read them also loved Kushiel (I got the BJ trilogy first, and also sent it around like an STD)

The Anne Bishop Black Jewels books were just okay, I thought. I wouldn't rate them nearly as high as the Kushiel books. I look forward to reading Carey's other work, but I've no particular interest in reading Bishop's new stuff.

Oh I agree, Carey is a MUCH better writer than Bishop, but I enjoyed Bishop's books a lot. I also read her BEFORE Carey, so there wasn't that basis of comparison.

Word of warning: anyone reading the BJt expecting another version of Kushiel will be sadly disappointed.
