Brown jiffy bag in the mailbox, my name and address written on it in marker.

Contents: most of the previous contents of my purse. The only noticable losses are the purse itself, $22 in bills and probably another $2 in change, a newish pair of tweezers, a bunch of safety pins, stamps, and altoids. Most everything else that I can think of has been returned.

I'll let them have that finder's fee. It was more than I was expecting to get back.

...I'm having a very weird day. I think I'm going to go sleep now.

that's very cool... I'm so happy to hear someone was good enough to at least return "most" of the bag. I'd still change the Credit Cards and keep an eye on your credit reports though just to be safe. good thing today is just about over... have a good night and a much better tomorrow :)

Man, what a bitch with the whole purse fiasco. I had a similar thing happen when I lost my wallet a couple of years ago - eventually most of the contents of the wallet were returned, but not the wallet, cash or credit cards.

Evidently the person who found it in the theater where it had slipped out of my pocket was kind enough to return the bits he couldn't make much use of. :/

I happen to have had a marvelous day, which I will explain more about later, but more importantly, I hope tomorrow is just as sweet for you as today was for me. May require getting Londo to do something special for you... And glad to hear you're belly-dancing again too... :hugs:

wow, you must have had one hell of a sweet purse for them keep the actual purse! when mine was stolen they found the purse in the garbage can with all the stuff in it minus my wallet. my purse was, apparently, not as cute as yours

It was very simple, just a nice black patent-leather-looking purse. I guess basic = good!

I'm curious, did they mail it (and thus spend some of your money to return it to you), or did they commit a felony by putting it in your mailbox without postage (and risking that you saw them)?

It was in the mailbox without postage. I was interested in the 'risk of being seen' factor of that, too!

My purse had been stolen once - I found out who actually stole it - I pretty much knew anyway - I never saw anything from it - until about 3 months later, some guy was out snorkeling in the bay and found it on the bottom. He returned it to me.

Strange _and_ fascinating!

People must like classic/basic purses. Some of the contents of my sister's purse were found a few blocks away from where it was stolen out of her car, but the bag itself never showed up. (She immediately canceled everything she had, but stores' varying policies with check-writing let whoever wound up with her checkbook cash a $65 check at 7-11 and buy a $500 TV at Target.)

USAA also asked me which checks I had in the book (luckily I had just started one so I knew), and they put a stop-payment on all of those checks. Woo.

HOORAY FOR SEMI-HONEST PEOPLE!

What a bizarre selection to keep/return!

well, the money is obvious... I guess stamps are useful as well. If you had bad breath, I guess you could justify the altoids...

I'm more curious as to why they chose to keep the tweezers and safety pins...
