heres my irritating story of how i am in the same boat:
i have a motion that really needs to be filed. i take it in to my supervising partner to look over. he says "i'll look over it tonight." i say "yea, but will you actually?" he says "why dont you trust me?" i say "because i left to study for the bar for three weeks. prior to leave i left a big stack of stuff on your desk that NEEDED to be looked over. when i got back from those three weeks the stack hadn't even been moved." he says "well, ill do it tonight. if i dont you can kick me in the head or whatever you want to do." i stand up and say "fine." will he get it done tonight? probably not. more than anything this office has taught me that deadlines can always be extended and that the lower down the totem pole you are, the less important your work is to others, regardless of how important it actually is. (i could be working on a supreme court case trying to get one of the partners out of prison and he would have said "i will look at it tomorrow."
