Maybe this needs to be printed in large, bold print.

I AM NOT A DEMOCRAT

I haven't had a party affiliation for a few years at least, and you know what I was before that? Shaky Libertarian. And before that? DIE HARD, LIMBAUGH-LOVING REPUBLICAN. Just like most of my family still is.

So please, keep your interpretations of what I am saying to yourself, unless you ask me to clarify.

Being a Democrat is hardly a requirement for thinking the country is pretty fucked up right now. I'm just sayin' is all.

So .... let me get this straight. Did you say you were a Democrat or something? Cause if so, the thought police are on their way over right now...

Democrat:An advocate of democracy.

I hope you are. :)

Ps that's an awesome avatar... my favourite game EVER.

Nah...

democrat: Advocate of democracy

Democrat: Member of the Democratic Party

A subtle and often confusing difference.

Ah, naive [livejournal.com profile] alendres... Democrat no longer means that in the US. And you know... maybe I'm not an advocate of democracy. There are a lot of stupid people out there. Of course, until I can figure out how to delegate who gets to be in charge and who doesn't... democracy is the next best thing. ;)

Ah, yes, I know. Amazing as this might seem, the rest of the world has been forced to sit through blow by blow accounts of your bloody political system. You know we're having our General Election soon too? :P

Me too. Did you know someone ported it to Java, so you can play it again?

4 topics to avoid to keep harmony and peacefulness among friends and family.
Politics
Religion
Money
Values

Unfortunatly, the election (which is now over thank-god) draws out the worst of the armchair political pundits.
Just ignore the peanut gallary and keep on rocking the way you know how.

I have that same problem. "You're supporting Kerry? I can't believe you're a Democrat!"

"I'm not."

"You're a Republican?"

"No, I'm an Independent. There are more then two choices you know."

It usually goes downhill from there.

ahh the black and white, my way or the highway thought. I'm neither a republican, democrat or independant. I'm me - I support who I support when I want to support them. My opinion of who is "right for the job" changes based on my highest priorities. Those change based on what's at hand in the world. Right now, I think the President is the best man for the job. In 8-12 years, might I think John Kerry is - possibly - its not probable, due to some strict values i have that he doesn't share - doesn't make him a bad man - doesn't make me a bad person. Its my priorities that are important to me, yours important to you - that's why we EACH get ONE vote.

Though I'm really a socialist, not a democrat. My heart bleeds ten times as fast as most democrats. My mind is so open it's hardly there. To turn right I have to take three lefts. It's embarrasing, really.

I doubt I'll ever swing that far... but compared to what I was, I'm quite perverted anyway! ;)

we should start a club of kids that grew up right-wing republican christian rush limbaugh-lovers. but now have come to their senses, and lament that the rest of their family can't do the same. i wonder how many other grads of emhs would fit into that category?

on 5 Nov 2004 12:09 (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] juldea.livejournal.com
Oh man, you're so right. The weird bit is, why do we and not the rest of our family in our generation (i.e. our siblings, cousins, etc) get it? How are we different?

I would be interested to know how many EMHS grads fit there.

And... are there people who go the other way? Who grow up tree-hugging pinko hippies and then turn Republican? Hrm.

Yep. Fun to watch. Usually happens about the fifth mortgage payment or second kid.

I keep waiting to turn Republican. I know it's likely. I'm 25 now, married for going on 5 years, second kid is about to turn one. Any day now, it should begin.

laf I can't fathom you as a Limbaugh lovin republican *boggle*
about why the others in the family didnt change...Did they all move too?As in,really away from home,to bigger cities?
I think alot of it has to do with life events, like who you meet, where you go,etc.

Brother went into the military and converted to Catholicism... Sister is kinda apathetic about politics but she married a military guy... That probably has a lot to do with it.
