It was almost entirely a group of Southern segregationist Democrats who opposed and filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act--primarily on states' rights grounds. Kennedy and the northern Democrats were in support of it.
Sen. Byrd may be the only living Senator who was a member but there have been others in the past.
Couldn't do a write in vote? Although I was kinda hoping Mickey Mouse would get more write-in's than Nader, simply for the crushing blow to a person's ego.
In theory we could do write in votes but in practice the way our ballot is set up there's on way to write anyone in! I blame Arnold for that..grrr.. As for Mickey Mouse, as much as I love his forign policy I just can't stand behind his lack of morals. I mean sure he claims to be a catholic but everyone knows Minie got an abortion and his best friend is named "Gooffy!"
