So, now that I have a Real Job™, I get benefits! I got a big thick packet in the mail summarizing everything. Medical, dental, vision, insurance, 403-b (like a 401-k but not)... Whee.

I get to choose between several different plans. It's pretty confusing. Luckily(??), I get to spend all day Monday in a New Hire seminar listening to someone explain it all. Probably for people with much lower intelligences than mine, too, so it'll be boorinnng...

Why yes, I have a high opinion of my intelligence. But I probably have a high opinion of yours, too, so you shouldn't worry. ;)

LOL

the general rule of thumb is:

the cheaper the medical insurance plan, the less freedome to choose a doctor.

So if you already have a doctor you know and trust, you probably want to go with like a PPO or HMO (which costs more).

But if you (like me) do not mind selecting from a list of providers who take that insurance plan, then an EPO (the cheaper option) is for you.

Also, make sure you get your teeth cleaned and get a health checkup and all that crap now, and get anything major (like wisdom teeth removal) done so that you have taken full advantage of the insurance, before you change jobs. teehee

Yup yup... I don't have any doctor here that I NEED to have, so I'll be able to go with a cheaper option. Yay!

Also - don't worry. The moment I'm signed up for these things I'm going in for serious dental work, all sorts of medical tests (there's some things to look for), and new glasses. Woot!
