juldea: (sleepy)

Having a lot of barbeque (ribs, brisket, beans, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, hush puppies) right before sleeping apparently means weird LARPing dreams.

In this one, my dad joined me for one of the upcoming cons. It wasn't Intercon E or Intercon Mid-Atlantic, though. It was some nebulous, quickly-thrown-together con featuring most of the same crowd.

Those who made memorable appearances: [livejournal.com profile] alexx_kay, [livejournal.com profile] princess_muffin, [livejournal.com profile] mr_teem, [livejournal.com profile] sjo, and [livejournal.com profile] siderea (whose large drumset (!) had to be set up by multiple strong men). And, of course, my dad.

I think the lack of specific persons in this dream is also interesting. There was no [livejournal.com profile] londo. No [livejournal.com profile] learnedax, [livejournal.com profile] tpau, [livejournal.com profile] laura47, or [livejournal.com profile] shogunhb (whom I would all expect at a general LARPing con) and, even though there was a Crossroads game happening there, no [livejournal.com profile] etherial or [livejournal.com profile] getoffended.

Ah well. I'm heading back to bed now.

Balls of fried seasoned cornbread. [livejournal.com profile] londo had never heard of them either, which astounded me. I suppose they're simply a southern US thing... They're quite yum.

Here's a sample recipe (http://www.gumbopages.com/food/breakfast/hush-pups.html)... the ones I had last night had scallions and lots of garlic.

interesting!

the only question remaining is why are they called hush puppies?

They were invented by a cook who made them out of the scraps of his cornbread to throw to his dogs, who were whining for food. :)

That's the story I know, at least.
