The more emotion you put into an argument, the more you allow your emotion to be manipulated by your enemy, which puts you at a disadvantage. Rationality wins arguments - that is, rationality makes everyone who sees the argument think more favorably of your side. That, really, was my point in continuing that thread: logical, rational countering of every emotional point made creates the appearance of me 'winning.'

on 28 Feb 2004 17:38 (UTC)Incidentally, the last time someone from my parents' church tried to get me started on the topic of how gays were ruining marriage, I told them to go complain at all the straight couples that cohabitate, have children together out of wedlock, and get domestic partner benefits.
At some point I think I'm going to be lynched, but it's less likely here than it was in North Carolina.
