I just walked the .5 mile walk from the grocery store to home in head-on 23 mph winds carrying a 37 lb backpack full of groceries and a combined 14 lbs in my hands. That's 51 lbs, folks.

(Alternately: .8 km walk, 37 kph winds, <17 kg backpack, >6 kg sacks, 23 kg total.)

Probably not at all impressive to anyone who's done backpacking/camping seriously, but it's impressive for me. Especially since I took the time to step on the scale (3 different times!) when I got home instead of dropping everything immediately.

I need a backrub. I'm making do with the last Dr. Pepper. It's an event to remember, actually. I don't generally buy soda for myself and Dr. Pepper is hard to find in stores around here, so I don't know when I'll have my next one. *savors the moment*

...and it's gone. Goodbye, sweet Dr. Pepper.

I really crave Chinese for lunch, but I just spent $85 on groceries...

HA. I drink Mountain Dew. I also got up at 1AM today to go to work. I slept in to get extra sleep so I didn't brew coffee. I thought I would have a Mountain Dew or two instead. But they were all gone. That was a really shitty surprize for me and my 4-5 hours of sleep. BTW, did you know Dr Pepper has animal lard in it? Cool huh?

Animal lard? Weird. I didn't know. Doesn't bother me, really, I'm not vegetarian or anything.

Did you know Guinness has blood in it?

How can it have lard in it if it's fat free?

well, i've never heard that it has lard in it, but for something to be fat free, it just has to say that it has 0 g of fat per serving on the label. which really just means that it has less than .5 g of fat per serving.
this brings up a vegan correlary (i'm pretty sure i spelled that wrong, but i'm lazy). cholesterol is only found in animal foods, so if one is vegan, one can look to see if the product has any cholesterol before bothering to read the ingredients. if it has cholesterol, it's not vegan. but if it doesn't, you still have to look, because it could have small amounts of animal products with not enough cholesterol to "register."
probably more information than you or julia actually wanted.

I'm sure I've read the ingredients on Dr Pepper cans enough times that I would remember if it said lard. Now maybe one of the chemical additites comes from lard, or something.
The rest of that is interesting and informative. So I guess it could have lard, even though the nutritional info says 0 grams of fat.
It doesn't TASTE lardy.

Guiness doesn't taste bloody, either. No coppery aftertaste. Just /bad/ aftertaste.

Iirc, Dr. Pepper is made from prunes. Anyone know?

I don't think I buy this lard thing. Maybe Dr. Pepper is like the original Oreo cookie, and used to have lard, but doesn't anymore.

Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup and/or sugar, caramel color, phosphoric acid, artificial and natural flavors, sodium benzoate (preservative), caffeine

I don't see how lard fits into this picture.

I don't see why the hell they would throw that in, but I guess they could. I won't believe it until I see some more substantial proof; it seems like an "urban legend" to me.

Nothing about it is listed at Snopes (http://www.snopes.com). Just for reference.

More information than I knew I wanted at the time, but I don't mind having it :)
