Lots of people who are single, when confronted with Valentine's day, feel afraid that being single on Valentine's day means being single forever. Or somesuch.
Then you don't know my ex. She's broken up with two people on or close to Valentine's day. The second time, she didn't even realize she was doing it again.
I'm thinking more along these lines for Halloween:
1) Dressing up in a costume: $20 2) Taking someone to a large party: $10 3) Paying your's and her's part for the keg: $5 4) Watching her get completely plastered but knowing you're not going to get laid: Priceless.
There are some things money can't buy....unless you're asking out a prostitute.

Actually, Halloween and Valentines Day are very similar. Both has to do with doing something out of the ordinary and not getting jack squat for doing it. Unless you're the girl. Then you always seem to land back on your feet, whereas the guys are out $50. :P
Halloween, on the other hand, is my favorite holiday of the year. Himself willingly buys chocolate, I start planning what to carve on pumpkins in August, I have costumes done by mid-October (only Laurel this year since I'm booked for facepainting), and the only fear I have is not finding a local pumpkin carving display to show off my l33t paring-knife-and-darning-needle skills in.
