Our living room is large enough to exercise in, but there's a large (4 foot square) "coffee table" (it's not really a coffee table, but I can't think of what to call it) right in the middle. It's got two levels, is covered in stuff, has a heavy glass panel in the top surface. I have twice before moved it on my own out of the way, with much stress and strain.

However, when I did it today, I lifted wrong. Y'know, how they always tell you to lift with your legs? I didn't, because it's too low. I bent at the waist and tried that way. And completely fucked up my back.

Of course, because I was in a bad mood anyway, I went ahead and exercised. It hurt but it didn't hurt THAT bad. So I kept going. It didn't stop hurting. Eventually I was done and I sat down. And when I tried to stand back up... I couldn't.

I'm in extreme pain. I can't stand up straight at all. I walk like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons, only my bend is at my waist instead of my upper back. I only made it from the couch to the computer because I took a tylenol 3 (with codeine) about 2 hours ago - and that still hasn't enabled me to stand up straight, or really stopped the pain.

I am in a complete horrible mood. I also lost the ball on the top of my favorite navel ring. A whole bunch of other stuff is bothering me. It's a horribly dreary icky day outside. BLAH.

I hate when I do things like that. Almost as bad as the pain is knowing that it's because I did something stupid, when I knew better, and if I'd done the right thing, which wouldn't even have been hard, at worst I'd have had some muscle soreness. At least you've got codeine tylenol. mmm...codeine...
And hey, look on the bright side: your girlfriend's car didn't sabotage its own transaxle on the way to work this morning, right?
It is a nasty day out, though. Tomorrow's supposed to be nicer.

*sniffle* but I don't HAVE a girlfriend!

Now that today is tomorrow, I can confirm that it is indeed nicer. Too bad I can't GET UP AND LEAVE THE HOUSE to experience it! :P

I'm very sorry to hear about this, I've hurt my back too, and it sucks. I hope you've just pulled a muscle and it will heal soon.

I never thought anybody would leave more comments in Julia's journal than I do!

Ah, sorry. It was just pointed out to me that I've been acting Very Creepy. I've been kind of unmotivated this week, so I've been procrastinating by checking LJ a lot and leaving a lot of comments. (See my friends page - it is very active... ;-) ) I really didn't realize I was basically commenting on every one of her posts. Which, now that I realize it, *is* super creepy since I'm this guy she just met on Saturday and all.

So I'll be stopping that. :-)

Chriopractor, chiropractor! If you get a hot guy chiropractor, it'll put you in a good mood, too.

For those of you in the studio audience, [livejournal.com profile] azadam and I decided last night on AIM that since I don't have medical insurance, I should trade sexual favors for chiropractic services. That way, the chiropractor has real incentive to actually fix me up.

I'm 100% joking... I think...

Yes he does...

Oh shit so do you!
I'm dumb!

Adam is one of my friends (and Nick's) from Edmond. You would probably get along fabulously.

He doesn't post on LJ because he has a blog (http://www.aristoi.org/mt/). Enjoy. I'm pointing him your way as we speak.

At least lousy weather is always replaced by good weather, eventually. The leaves are going to be turning soon, it gets real pretty up here.

Yeah, do something about it right away, bad backs ruin people's lives. Hope it gets better soon!

Nod, my mom has a bad back and has constantly not been able to do things while I grow up. However, with consultation with her I am fairly positive I have just strained muscles and not anything else major. Also the fact that lying in bed all night made a noticable difference. Now I'm just going to lie in bed all day, too :)

But I promise to see someone if it doesn't go away in reasonable time.

I just had a weird memory of your mom's flawless hairdo.

That -is- a weird memory.

And LJ isn't letting me choose a picture. :P

I've pulled a muscle in my lower back before, and it did indeed hurt quite a bit. At first I could move around if I didn't bend a certain way, but after I laid down it stiffened and it took me a very long time to get up.

I went to a doctor, who referred me to another doctor (a physical therapist I think). This person started by stretching and relaxing my back muscles and prescribing muscle relaxers. I also had an electric heating pad and some ice packs I alternated on the spot in question.

Took about a week or so (and another trip to the therapist), if I remember correctly, but it eventually went away.

Sorry it happened, and I hope that things start happening your way soon.

ohhhhhh I wish I could go get muscle relaxers. I keep thinking of the bride at the end of Sixteen Candles and how I want to be like that currently. ;)

I've used warm towels, and if we had an ice maker I'd do ice too. Does icy-hot count?

I've never seen Sixteen Candles, but I think I get the idea. Icy hot may count. Whatever helps relax your back is best. If you can bum some massages, that would be good too. ;)

Man how I wish there were people I could bum massages from!!!

Here's what you do. Take your coffee table, "LIGHT IT ON FIRE AND KICK IT!" That will take care of the coffee table's smug look. As for your back, drink heavily while on codine then sit in a hot bath OR you can come here and sit in my shiatzu massage chair. I'll even put it in front of the comp for you!

Can I kick it, and THEN light it on fire? I'd prefer not to burn my foot.

If there were any way possible for me to get there to sit in that chair... but my apartment is on the second floor, and I don't think I can deal with stairs at the moment. That, and the 10 minute walk to the T station. And I don't know where you live. Damn, obstacles.
