the pain of beauty
17 July 2003 12:36I will never be able to shave my legs again.
I have very thick, very dark leg hair. I also have extremely sensitive skin that breaks out into horrible rashes after shaving, no matter what products I use. Add to that the inevitable ingrown hairs, and you'll understand that I have a really difficult time keeping smooth. Nair has done okay for me in the past, but it only removes the hair at the skin level. I have stubble the next day, if not that night. Home hot wax kits have also worked, but it takes an INCREDIBLY long time and a lot of contortion, and I generally can't get all of the hair anyway.
That all changed a couple of hours ago.
I made an appointment and went to an expensive, fancy salon on the northwest side of Norman (where the big houses and ritzy businesses are) for a full leg and bikini wax. The girl who helped me (would I call her a beautician?) was really nice and friendly. She thought I was incredibly brave for getting a bikini done for my first time ever getting a professional wax. Heh.
All I have to say is: I'm seriously impressed. One pull from her accomplished what about 5-10 minutes at home by myself would do. Sure it hurt, but not as much as getting a piercing, and the pain was gone almost instantaneously.
Another great thing about it was that I assumed the price quoted on their website for a full leg + bikini, $75, was for only one leg. I thought I was shelling out $150+ for this. But no, $75 is the price for both legs. WOO! I was so happy I gave Nicole a $15 tip.
Then I went to the tailor's to pick up my new suit coat. Aside from the weirdness that came out on this picture in regards to my face, glasses, and hair, I look snazzy. Er, here's a pic with better color.
P.S. cute kitties in the backgrounds. :)
