I've done a lot of research tonight on the above categories and more, since finding Nimda (a virus) and a bunch of datamining programs on my computer (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] reyjadan for the detecting software). I've come to the conclusion that some people suck. Why are these kinds of things even made? *sigh*

I'm happy to have a clean computer now. It was really getting damn slow (my clue that I needed to check things out).

AVG (http://www.grisoft.com) and Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com) were the two programs I used.

I use AdAware for the spyware problems, virus scans are something else entirely.

I don't like any scanner I've had that did it 24/7 on anything & everything so instead, when I feel like running one, I just use this free one from trend micro.
