The Worst Paper I've Ever Written (see this post) got a B+. I'm torn between laughing and crying. I haven't even gotten the guts to read over it yet (I wrote it at 3am, fell asleep during sentences, know I made no attempt to keep a coherent thought flow after waking up, and did not proofread it after finishing it at 4:30am).
I just wrote a philosophy homework (1-page paper) over the different types of 'good' as described by Glaucon in the beginning of Book II of the Republic, and "my own examples" for those different types were all about either food or politics. It's quite obvious what's on my mind this morning. :)
That being said, Vote Smart is a pretty good site, but since I'm trying to access it on election day (dumb me) it's having some problems. I would like to find somewhere to view descriptions and interpretations of the state questions before voting on them. I, quite basically, can't understand what most of them mean.
Ugh, don't you hate it when you get an itch under your bra strap?

on 5 Nov 2002 12:29 (UTC)Ignoring the fact that I am already voting like you are on those two petitions, I think you should think harder next time before you put "vote this way" anywhere. On some topics we have EXTREMELY different viewpoints, y'know. ;)

on 5 Nov 2002 12:08 (UTC)basically, here's what I concluded from looksmart:
gary richardson is too radical to get elected. he wants to abolish income taxes completely, and yet he wants to increase funding enough to make college free. the economics of this are astounding. the only source of revenue he wants, as far as I can tell, is a state lottery.
brad henry is much more moderate, and I think he is very smart. he wants to increase funding for education, and he too is in favor of establishing a lottery to help education funding. this isn't on the website, but I think he was also in favor of eliminating the turnpikes. he doesn't think that the government should take a stance on abortion.
I didn't look at the republican candidate, because the only republican points I'm interested in are monetary policy, and the website didn't have that information.
The independent running for congress didn't fill out the survey, and I didn't feel like looking at his track record. I didn't look at tom cole, because in my mind he's guilty by association with jc watts.

on 5 Nov 2002 15:36 (UTC)That being said, the Independent guy running for Senate is a real hoot. His listed address is actually a motel which he only stayed at for a night or two, and as far as I could tell he hasn't answered any correspondence from any news/information source, so no one has a clear view of what his stance is. I don't think many people have even MET him. It's whacko.
Gary Richardson had another source of revenue besides the lottery, taxing corporate spending. Also, he seemed to be quite big on cutting out extraneous departments from the government, so I guess he thought the lack of funds from income taxes could be balanced out. *shrug* It's an interesting thought. However, I don't like his social views at all, so he didn't get my vote.
Interesting, your "guilty by association" comment, because I have never heard anything really bad about J.C. Watts...
