Well, all assurances or attempts to convince me that I don't need to move out are moot, because I already have another apartment. That's right, as of about 3pm today I have an apartment in Post Oak to move into on Thursday. The info:

Pets allowed. Pet deposit was waived because they're having a $200-off move-in special right now, and rather than do that I had them waive the pet deposit. Save $200 either way.

Rent is $500/mo, includes water and garbage but not electricity. Am I correct in assuming that I just need to call the electric company (whoever they are), give them the address, and tell them I want to start getting electricity there on Thursday?

In the apartment there is:
carpeting
fireplace
dishwasher
garbage disposal
possibly a washer and dryer (for $35 more a month... each load of laundry in the on-site laundromat is $1.75 total, which means if I do 20 loads of laundry a month then getting the washer and dryer in the apartment is worth it. Although then there's the extra cost on the electricity bill for having those running. And the on-site laundromat is not far at all from my apartment. So perhaps I shouldn't get the washer/dryer in the apartment...)

screened-off balcony (so the cats can sit outside without falling off!) (yes... second floor apartment)
fridge with icemaker
ceiling fans
storage room off the balcony

Plus, the bus stop (on the apartment loop) is less than 50 yards from my door, and the complex has an on-site gym (and pool, and tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts...)

So there are a lot of things I'm excited about. The rent not being one of them, but hey... I'm getting a lot of nice things out of the deal.

So, if you go to their space on apartmentguide.com and check out the floor plans, I have the one-bedroom squarish plan. It's 650 square feet. I believe that the "virtual tour" you can look at is of my plan.

I'm excited.

The only thing I'm unsure of is internet access. If I have the ability to pay for it, I'd like to get DSL or a cable modem and just not get a phone installed (I do have a cell phone). However, that's more expensive than getting a phone line and just dialing up. So we'll see.

So, for those of you still reading (because I'll assume you're interested enough to continue ranting...) the great thing about this is that it's the FIRST complex I visited because it was the FIRST on my list. I had these 26 different pet-friendly apartments listed, and I cut it down to 6 ones I liked from what I saw while delivering pizza, and then decided to visit the one I liked the best first... Post Oak. I go in, and there's a guy named Tom there ready to help me, and I said, "My cat and I would like a new apartment." He asked how soon, and I said soon. He then told me that someone was turning in the keys to a one-bedroom today, and it could be ready in a few days. So Thursday was set as the moving day, yay!

I like the idea of having a new place. It will be fun.

The only unsure piece of furniture is the piano. Will we (meaning whoever from Papa John's decides to come help knowing I will pay and feed them, and whoever of my friends decides to as well!) be able to lift the piano up a flight of stairs? Should it go live with my mom? Hmmmm. Mom and I will discuss this tomorrow.

Er, it's 2am. I should sleep. Work in 7 hours and all. Well, I hope everyone else shares my enthusiasm, and you're all welcome to come help move things on Thursday afternoon!

when i moved into our house on johnson st. i had my cell phone and i got cable modom. if your already paying for a cell phone i wouldn't get a land line. i think in a few years that no body will use land lines anymore anyway. if you really do want a home phone you should look into getting a COX phone. i think their only like $11 a month or something and i also think that they have some good deals if you get more than one service from them at a time.

when are you planing on moving your piano?

yeah I signed up for a cox phone, just a simple plan, I think it's something like $10-15 a month. Much cheaper than a cable modem.

it may be cheeper but for me going back to deal up after having cable would be like ripping my own skin off. i've become so spoiled that my parents dsl is starting to feel too slow. but that's just me. if you have the patience for dial up than it's probably worth saving $35 a month.

yeah well that's why I work at the computer lab :)

And of course I am allowed to change my mind after a month/few weeks/few days ;)
