today = fun
15 August 2002 21:11Had a good time today with my dad and Michelle. Greenfield Village was kind of cool, basically your run-of-the-mill history park with people in period costumes and horse-drawn buggies all around. Saw how to card wool, work a loom, blow glass... Saw some interesting monuments about Edison, George Washington Carver, the Wright Brothers, and of course Henry Ford. The Ford Museum was cool as well - saw a long display of presidential vehicles (including Kennedy's car) and found out that Reagan's car was the last to be released to any museum. Nowadays the presidential cars are destroyed by the Secret Service after being retired from service. Interesting, eh? Also saw the chair Abraham Lincoln died in (complete with stains) and the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile (go ahead - imagine those together somehow).
And the best part - walking through the only Dymaxion house (Buckminster Fuller's design before the geodesic dome) that was ever lived in. There aren't any signs that it was lived in; they had done lots of reconstruction on it. But some of the ideas in that house are just amazing. Especially the closets and shelves. I definitely want a dome house. Go here to learn more about that particular one.
Then we went to the Greektown Casino, where my dad lost $100 at craps... I didn't play anything. I don't have the money to lose. We left there and walked around Greektown a bit, stopped in a bar for some beer and darts, got take-out greek salads and grape leaf rolls, came home... Now I'm all fed and sleepy but it's only 9:20.
I figured out a way to outsmart his old clunky slow computer. But I'm not telling.
Looks like I'll be leaving here on Saturday morning. Guess I should do some Six Flags research to see if we (Anna and I) can go on Sunday!
