juldea: (sleepy)

My father's computer has 32 megs of ram. I'm surprised I actually decided to put up with the hassle of posting. It takes IE about 5 minutes to load up. Hopefully my dad will do something about this now that I told him where the problem (at least part of it) lies.

I got in last night at 11pm; a 12-hour drive. I made about 5 stops along the way, twice for gas, once for food, and two more times to keep from falling asleep. After driving for only an hour, I pulled over at a service station, pulled my pillow out of the back seat, and attempted to sleep there just a bit (I figured there were enough people around that I wouldn't be bothered). It got too hot, but the 20 minutes I spent resting my eyes did help. Plus I got up and walked around after that.

I got to drive through Canada. I didn't have any problems at the borders, although when returning to the US I had a bit of a fiasco explaining why I was driving from Massachusetts to Michigan with a car full of my belongings which I was moving to Oklahoma. ;) Canada was fun; I like metric. I was very careful at first about going 100km/h until I had a gauge of the flow-of-traffic speed, which was about 115. I really liked the fact of the km distances; they're shorter than miles, so when seeing a sign that said, "nexttown 65" I'd subconsciously expect to see that town in an hour and would instead see it in about half an hour. This was good for my inner feelings of accomplishment.

Today I went with my father to the Belle Isle Aquarium, the Detroit Science Center (where we saw an IMAX movie about the Int'l Space Station), and BD's Mongolian Barbeque. I love that stuff. Tomorrow we're going to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village - the museum is not about cars, it's about "the American experience", and the Village is one of those towns where everything is set to pretend it's 1890 without all the bad parts of it being 1890. There's a lot of stuff there, though, including Lincoln's chair and Kennedy's car (for the morbid curiosity in all of us), the Wright Brother's house, Thomas Edison's lab (they took these buildings and transported them to this spot), one of Buckminster Fuller's dome houses (I'm SO there), the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile... and tons of other stuff. It looks to be so fun. Then we'll head to the Greektown Casino to... eat? My dad says so, so I guess that's what we're doing. I certainly don't have the funds to gamble. I did see the casino today, and it's smack in the middle of Detroit proper and didn't look TOO incredibly frilly... maybe there's a good place to eat in there. We'll find out.

I tried some beer I hadn't heard of before, assuming it was Canadian and therefore good, but I couldn't taste the difference between it and Miller Lite. However, it was not wimpy Oklahoma beer, and I got tipsy after two bottles. Amusingly, my dad bought me a whole case to take with me home.

The plan is to leave here on Friday for Edwardsville, IL to see the Csar's. Anna and I will go to Six Flags on either Saturday or Sunday. Then, I will return home... to teensy cats and a lot of unpacking to do. And grocery shopping.

I am extremely tired. Time for bed, I think.

Michelle is nice. Meeting her wasn't weird, but I think everyone was trying to keep it as non-weird as possible. So far, I like her. And I'm cool with that.

If you don't know who I'm talking about, don't worry about it. I just didn't want to make a separate friends-only post about it.
