So... lunch time. Today is new hire orientation. Mmm, fun. Especially since I got 2.5 hours of sleep last night...

Well, I had awakened late, and then [livejournal.com profile] londo decided he'd stay the night and return to Worcester this morning, so I didn't want to go to bed early... and then [livejournal.com profile] sandrylene (welcome her to my journal!) came over with pie... Things just spiraled into an evening of Buckaroo Bonzai and piemonade. (No really, we made piemonade - a slice of apple pie and some vanilla ice cream in a blender. Blend. Drink. Enjoy.) Anyway, it was a fun night. And I ended up going to bed at 3 and waking up at 5:30.

So I had it written that this orientation started at 7:30, so I got here at 7:15, and the first presenter started at 8:15. Yar. (Point of note: I learned that I can stand regular coffee with four creams and four sugars. Anything less is VILE. I guess that says good things about the blackness of my heart and the bitterness of my soul?) The good bit of this is that I thought ahead and brought my knitting - I'm in the middle of my first knitting project ever, a scarf - and therefore I've been knitting for, um, about 5 hours straight. I think I've doubled the length of the scarf... and I'm fairly certain I'll finish off this skein(?) of yarn by the end of the day. Y'see, these presenters don't mind that I knit while they talk, because I still listen and ask all the relevant questions.

So, yeah, I'm learning about a bunch of safety procedures and benefits and earned time and yadda. The benefits will be the most important part... turns out I don't get to access them until Nov. 1 :( So, uh, lotsa dentist's appointments to be made then. Hmm, I wonder if I can make the appointments now, so I can go in asap after Nov. 1... I really need to get my teeth fixed. And new glasses. And blood tests for thyroid issues. And my Graves' ophthalmopathy checked out... Yeah. I'm so broken.

So if I don't get food now, I don't get food. Seeya.

I am beginning to doubt that shoe companies make navy blue shoes anymore.

That's all I wanted. I decided to use my extra 90 minutes (since the seminar got out before my normal work day would) to go shoe shopping and try to find some cheap (<$30) navy blue shoes for work. I went to Filene's Basement, Payless, DSW, TJ Maxx, and Marshall's. And NO DICE. I mean, yeah, I did find some navy blue shoes. They were either (1) not suitable for winter, meaning slides or whatnot, or (2) not fitting me in any way, shape, or form. It sucks having a foot so wide that even wide width shoes are either too tight or too long. *sigh*

The amazing part of this trip is that I found some GORGEOUS black boots in Filene's for $15...

..and DIDN'T buy them. Yeah, wtf? I had some kind of attack of frugality. *sigh* But really, if I buy boots I should buy waterproof ones, and the only ones of those that fit were ugly and $50. I'll just have to keep looking.

Pictures of the piemonade experience... and of the thing that I DID splurge money on today.

Not sure when it'll be useful, but I'm sure someday it will. That and [livejournal.com profile] londo should like. ;)
