oh my god! I own 4 bras, two pairs or stockings and about 10 pairs of undies.

What are control devices?

Well, most of the 'control devices' I own are old, from high school, when my mom bought them for me. Hooray for helping out the self-esteem... "here, honey, you should wear this under that dress so you don't look lumpy".

Anyway, control devices are slips or waist-cincher type things... anything that is made to go around you and suck you in tight and look thin and/or smooth.

I wear those once a year, maybe. I wore one the other night for the Gaea Spore show.

oh right - I used to wear the same underwear as my mum - bonds cottontails. Those underpants that go right up over your belly button and cover half your thighs. This was in the days before I could concieve of anyone but me actually seeing my underwear, ie up to the time I turned 20;) They weren't very tight though.. in fact they were noticably baggy after a few washes.

Yup, stuff like that. Not just things like those though. And they DON'T lose their tightness, heh. =P But it's the right idea.

Huh. I've never taken such a complete inventory of my undergarments. I did count how many pairs of underwear I had once to determine whether I was justified in buying more, or if I should just do laundry more often (I discovered the second was true, but I bought more anyway). What prompted this?

Well, it started 2 weeks ago when I was doing my laundry for the road trip, and goldbug and I got into a conversation about whether I had more bikini underwear than thongs. Since I had all my clean underwear in one place and the only not-clean pair was on my body, it was easy to catalog.

So I'd been spouting off this number (56) for 2 weeks, and then got confused as to whether that was before or after the 2 pairs of underwear I bought on the trip (I must've only counted one of them). So I decided to do a recount last night after laundry again. That turned into counting my bras, and one thing led to another...

sonofabitch. where do you keep all this stuff?

"On your left is the living room. The door in front of you leads to the kitchen. If you'll follow me through this hallway, you'll find the lingerie room on the left, and this trap door leads to the Imelda Marcos Memorial Shoe Bunker Facility..."

Sometimes I envy the fact that women get way more cool underwear than guys do. And the only non-standard men's underwear is either:
- $125 dollar a pair designer boxers (sheesh)
or
- marketed exclusively at a gay clientele

Some time back, I think I got added to a gay marketing list, because I started receiving International Male and several underwear catalogs that didn't seem very hetero-oriented. It was kind of disappointing, because all of their items seem to be variations on the theme of "smaller and tighter" or "smaller and tighter and fetish-inspired", which is kind of limiting. I mean, I may as well just buy high-quality socks and repurpose them. :)

Hehe, my shoe collection would make Imelda cry. It's not very large. Maybe I'll catalog that another night.

As for storage:

Bras are either in the top drawer of my dresser with socks, or hanging to dry on the back of my door (since I don't put them in the dryer - it's not condusive to a long life).

Underwear have recently been relocated and (sheepish grin) live in a walmart sack hanging on my doorknob. I need to find a place for them. They used to live in the sock/bra drawer, but that thing started getting too full to open and close right...

Everything else lives in the second drawer in my dresser, the misc. drawer. My workout wear stays in there too (not just the sports bras, the leggings and joggin' pants too).

You don't have to pay $125 for just regular old silk boxers, and I consider those sexy enough. *shrug* I'm not quite sure why "smaller and tighter" is so popular for men's underwear, I never liked it... but then again, I go for skinny pale computer geeks.

But I'll definitely agree, girls get to have a lot more fun with underwear than guys do.

damn! I have 1 bra that fits, and a couple that are Close Enough. I have 2 tanktops that I wear under clothes all of the time. I have about 10 pairs of underwear, some socks, a couple of pairs of tights, and (I think) 3-4 slips.

Underwear shopping = fun. Bra shopping /=(not equal) fun.

Bra shopping is uber-fun. Great fun. Even more fun than underwear shopping... maybe. You can't try on underwear before you buy them.

But that's just me. And we can see I'm weird about this kind of thing. ;)

it's hard to find bras for size 30A that aren't overly insulting.

I wouldn't know. =P

Maybe Elise should shop for bras for me, then. *grin*

It's hard to find bras for 12DD that aren't stupefyingly sensible.

Australian size.. I think it migh be equivalent to a european 40, or an American dress size 14.. I don't know very much about clothing size differences. I think our sizes are one bigger than you have there but I could be wrong. 12 to 14 is average in Australia.

I would be all about bra shopping if there were very many that came in a 30 A. As it is, there isn't much selection, and selection is over half the fun.

you should use "!=" for "not equal".

I have very few pairs of underpants. I have a few pairs of boxers and some emergency bikini briefs. well, I guess I still have a handful of old pairs of boxers (I mean like >5 years) that I never wear.

I feel the need for a fishnet body stocking.

How I can feel the need for anything else after that list is just a property of being me. ;)
