What a horrible night.

My day was great, until I didn't get more than 45 minutes of nap before work. I had to show up early for "orientation", which is amusing because I've worked there for at least 3 weeks now. I had to watch a dumb video and such. That ate into my actual working time, too. Then I went to deliver my first pizza (it was just one because the night was slow at that point) and after finding out that the person in the house wasn't a friendly guy, realized I locked my keys in my car. I had to call the store, call a locksmith, and call goldbug (to drive over with a warm car) and wait outside in the 25 degree (F, that's -5 celcius!) weather until someone showed up. Goldbug, my savior, came first. The locksmith then came, and my car was unlocked for $25. Which sucks, but it's a lot better than the only other time I've locked my keys in the car, in Houston, where it was $55 I think.

Usually my door key is in my pocket on my other keychain, not the one that goes in the ignition, but since I took the car into the shop today I gave them both keys on the same keychain and didn't remember to put the door key back on the different chain.

The rest of the night was just like that - delivering in freezing cold weather (it got down to 20/-7), making a lot of mistakes and annoying people - I ended up only getting $25 for the whole night in tips, so with the locksmith I broke even on that. Blergh.

Now, I need to fall asleep hardcore.

you should give goldbug a key to your car, and keep a spare in your moneybag. that way, if you lock your keys in your car again, you would either 1) have a spare ready, or 2) call goldbug instead of a locksmith. I always keep a spare in my wallet, because my car randomly decides to lock the doors automatically. plus, I always give my spare to the mechanic, so that they don't have my housekey. both are good ideas, I proclaim from experience!

I hope that today is a better day for you than last night was. I'm in the comp lab at the blender. I was in class, but we were just going over a test today. in the middle of it, the fire alarm goes off! of course on the coldest day in a month-neighborhood. I didn't go outside, I just stood inside the doors reading the paper. then, instead of going back to class, I came to the computer lab! but myWANG won't let me logon :o(. probably related to the fact that they just switched over to a linux server this weekend and as a result have some new problems to deal with that they'd already fixed for windows.

I'm hungry! but I have to wait for lunch until I get home from class before work. I have leftovers from border crossing waiting for me... mmm... green chili stew and sour cream soft taco...

I don't have any spare keys to my car, that is part of the problem. I need to have them made, but they have the little chip inside and so it's not as simple as taking them to Campus TV JoeBobBillJohnwhateverhisnameis.

Actually, it is. I'm dumb. The ignition key has the chip, the door keys don't. I'll be off to make 2-3 copies in a bit. =P

My mother had an auto-starter put in her car, so they pretty much put a chip just inside the steering wheel. So even though she's supposed to require a key with a special chip (damn things cost $50 for extras), she can just get regular copies to start the car now if she wants.

ooh, I hate those chip-keys. I didn't know any american companies other than ford did that; ford did it in retort to reports that their cars were too easy to steal. *shrug* that kinda sucks. having spare door keys is still a good idea. How much is a new key for your car? I know that the ford keys are like $100/key, which is pretty shitty.

I don't know, all I ever found out when I got the car is that if I wanted spare keys, I have to go to the dealership up in Edmond to get them because they have the chips. So I'd have to call them to find out.
