nemoalia, I did some research on Bush's tax refund plan. Turns out that this is what happens:
For my 2000 tax return, I am listed as a dependent. Dependents don't get special happy tax returns. I get a letter in the summer telling me so. Too bad for me.
For my 2001 tax return, I am no longer listed as a dependent. That means that they were wrong in summer 2001 in telling me that I don't get money, because during that time I wasn't a dependent! So they throw the money at me now, in my refund.
Hooray!
The government bought me a monitor. Whee-ha. :)
And now I get yummy pancakes.
