bah humbug
25 December 2001 19:43Well, Christmas this year sucked.
I woke up yesterday and spent about an hour on the phone trying to track down my mom and sister to find out how we were all getting to the grandparents'. My dad called, and my grandma called, and I got pushed back that I didn't get to do all the things I wanted to do. I didn't get to stop by the hotel, etc. I got to mom's and wrapped my presents (2) there while waiting for Deanna and Blake to show up. We eventually got out of Norman, stressed, at 5:45 and got to the grandparents' at almost 8 - basically, late.
We ate sandwiches and sat around and then opened presents.
Mema, Papa, mom, Deanna, Blake, Aunt Jenny, cousins Kevin, Kadilyn, and Dylan, Dylan's wife Kathy, and their children Destiny and Hope.
I got one wrapped present - a kit with 4 snowman-shaped cookies and frosting and sprinkles to decorate the cookies with. Suggested age level, 8-12. I also got given a stuffed snowman which is kind of cute, and Mema and Papa gave every person $100.
What was the point of making a wish list, again?
My mom got Blake, my sister's fiance, a PS2. I got a DDR pad.
Yeah, so I'm a little bitter about presents. I really, really wanted a printer. That's all. But that was really important, and I thought I'd get it. *sigh*
Anyway... I got supertired very early last night for some reason. It was 10, and I crashed on the bed. At about 3am, I woke up, and couldn't go back to sleep for about 2 hours. I just sat and thought about things and worried. I'm having this problem where I'm tensing my jaw up a lot subconsciously.
I ended up falling back asleep and sleeping until about 10. I woke up and found that my mom was crumpled on the other bed in tears. I guess Christmas without dad (and he had called but probably didnt' talk to her) got to her. She cried, hard, for about an hour. None of us could do anything. Merry Christmas, eh?
Eventually De, Blake, and I made a round to our great-aunt's house where there is yearly Christmas lunch, but only stuck around for some snacks and to be accosted by our redneck drunk relatives (and I'm not being facetious). Then we went back to Mema and Papa's, picked up mom, and drove back to OKC. Deanna had to be at work at 4, and we made it into town at about 4:30, so she was in a bad mood and snapping and left immediately.
I had a brief lapse of crappiness because I was able to play with my mom's 2 month old puppies for a while, and they were so much work to keep ahold of that... well, that I just took care of them.
Then mom says, "Oh! I have another present for you that I didn't wrap," and I get all excited again, and it's a sweater that's not really all that pretty and much too big anyway. So she took it back, and I think she's going to try and get a smaller one.
So I came home. I did manage to also acquire from my mom the present she had gotten for her hairstylist, which was a Harry Potter washcloth/towel set, because I swooned over it.
However, I'm still grumpy, and not ashamed to say it.
At least I will soon go over to help set up the dark party, and Jason will be here fairly soon.
Hope everyone else had a happier time.
