Can I recommend against it? Linking two things like that just make it harder, and the failure of one leads to the inevitable failure of the other. You are resourceful enough to accomplish any two things you want to, on their own merits.
If you do not feel you have settled things which are important to you, such as this, you are taking away from any relationship you encounter, not just romantic ones.
Taking some time off may well be a good thing to do. It is unclear to me what benefit you would get from linking your dating availability to your financial state.
I apologize for the late reply, but I have some time tonight that I'm using to get back to some LJ comments I've left sit in my email box.
Linking them together is a way to balance out something that I know I should be doing but generally drag my feet on out of convenience and something that I suspect I shouldn't be doing but rush into anyway in something akin to convenience. So it's not that I think they are connected fundimentally in any way, I just think that if I add some connection between the two in my head, it'll help balance out those routes of least resistence.
