From Pink's "Who Knew":
If someone said three years from now you'd be long gone
I'd stand up and punch them out, 'cause they're all wrong
I know better, 'cause you said forever and ever
Who knew?

From The Eagles' "What Do I Do With My Heart":
I'm not gonna say a word, I know I can't change your mind
You know where you need to go, I know I'll be left behind
I won't hold you back, I won't stand in your way
If you need to make a new start
But I still wanna know, when my arms let you go
What do I do with my heart?

There is a line in the novel, High Fidelity, which I can't find because I loaned my copy out and never got it back. However, it was something like this:

"For a while after the breakup, I found any song in which someone got dumped and got their heart broken as spookily relevant. This meant that since I worked in a record store, and that encompasses most of pop music, I spent a lot of my time spooked."

(this doesn't mean you're not totally right; pop is *for* that. But I thought it might make you smile a little.)

It does make me smile a little, just because it's so true!

Music is a useful tool

You may or may not know that I use such music as a gauge of my depression. The more songs that speak to me (or for depending on how you look at it) while listening to the radio (or itunes) the worse off I am. It varies a little by sheer randomness and sample size, but its spookily accurate and a good thing for me to track. Also the type of songs that feel this way let me know exactly what it is that's bothering me.

I don't remember who said this first, but "You know you've had a bad break up when every sad song on the radio is about you."

And then there's stuff like Alanis Morrissette's "You Oughta Know" which is for after you stop being sad and start being angry and bitchy and bitter.
