You didn't provide details - but barring actual blown components, wet electronics can usually be dried out and salvaged. You'd want to use something like alcohol to displace the water and prevent corrosion.

So dump a container of rubbing alcohol into the mechanical area that got wet, let it dry out, and retry?

Basically.

Drain as much of the water as possible, and if you can open up whatever it is and pat dry with a towel that won't leave lint. Then rinse with rubbing alcohol and let it air dry. Make sure it is fully dry before trying to use it.
