I live in the frigid North - I should go skiing!

I assume this is an event I would have to plan for, saving money, etc. So, can someone tell me - how much can I expect to spend at a common ski 'resort' to rent equipment and get a daily ski pass? (I assume I can, with my own knowledge, estimate travel/food/entertainment/lodging(if necessary) expenses.)

More questions:

Do you know anyplace for a pretty-much-newb to go to? I've been skiing once, but I did make it beyond bunny slopes and onto intermediates (blue circles, maybe?) that one time!

Are you interested in joining me on this venture?

About when is my time limit for skiing this winter? (When do all the places close for warm weather?)

I learned to ski at Wachusett. It has some nice easy slopes (http://www3.wachusett.com/mtninfo/trailmap/) as well as a few more challenging runs (rates here (http://www3.wachusett.com/rates/liftticketprices/)).

The other local place I've been is Nashoba Valley (http://www.skinashoba.com/rates_dir.htm). Can't really give a good review as it's been a few years and I don't remember much. I did have fun, but the snow wasn't as good, I ran into a few ice patches. I think it was fairly late in the year then.

I haven't been skiing in the last couple of years (knee problems), but I seem to remember you're ok into March but the late it gets the more slushy/icy the slopes get. I'm not sure when the local places actually close.

And I might be interested in going.

I love skiing. I haven't been in years, but have been itching to take advantage of the snow for awhile, but neither of my roomies ski, nor do they seem to have much more than a passing idea of where to ski around here.

I've got a jeep with 4WD, a ski-rack and skis collecting dust, if you're ever in the mood.

i love skiing. wachusets is ok. every n\mountain has newbie runs that i woudl totally go on with you and help you learn if yo udon't wnat to shell out for lessons


if you are renting, assume like $50 to rent everythign you need except clothing, and another $30-50 for a lift ticket.

you mgiht be able to still ski in march. i am willign to give it a go since i haven't ahd time this season.

one way to save money is to convince me and peter to go, as peter's family owns a ski condo, and that makes it all so much nicer and cheaper.

I am doing well without the cane, atm. It is healing, and seems to have caught a burst of healing speed here near the end... like suddenly it's doing pretty damn well and I'm not in pain at all! Perhaps it's because I started going back to the gym, and therefore exercising the muscles around the knee that support it (like the PT told me to do)? :)

I go to Wachusett every week (no, really) and it's pretty good. It would be good to learn there. Even though I snowboard instead of ski, and my kind hate your kind (skiers!), I'd be happy to tag along. :)

Very true, other than if you start wiring your body for one, transitioning back and forth may prove more difficult, and slow down your learning on both. They're not real similar except for the whole "sliding on snow" thing. :)
